The Role
The Assistant Adoptions Center Manager will have a schedule of, 5, 8-hour shifts, Thursday-Monday. In this role, your main responsibilities will be to provide assistance and direction to the Adoptions Team. You will be assisting the Adoption Center Manager with staff/volunteer performance management, staying up to date and aligned with field best practices and writing and implementing department/program policies and procedures. This position will also ensure that Adoptions, Cat Café and Retail Center are running efficiently and effectively. A few more key components to this role are:
- Providing and maintaining exceptional service both in person, email, & over the phone
- Managing difficult or emotional customer situations and responding promptly to customer needs
- Collecting and maintaining accurate records
- Performing administrative tasks, reconciling daily deposits and compiling daily reports and weekly/monthly statistics
- Provide information and answer questions regarding adoption, veterinary medical, or animal behavior
- Coaching staff and volunteers by providing regular, ongoing feedback and training
What We Need From You
- Required: A minimum of 1-year experience with companion animal handling and care
- Preferred: A minimum of 1-year experience in shelter environment
- Preferred: Multi-lingual, English & Spanish
- Enthusiasm for the mission of the Humane Society of Charlotte and helping animals in our community
- Exemplifies and fosters workplace culture of compassion, diversity, equity and inclusion
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to effectively handle and diffuse high-stress and emotionally charged situations
- Computer literate in a Windows environment; proficient in Microsoft Office Applications
- Must have a reliable mode of transportation
- Must be willing to work flexible hours

As a result, in 2023 we were able to help over 3600 companion animals find new homes in the community and offer support to many others in our community. Our Adoption Center provides not only animal adoption services but also contains our own Cat Cafe and Retail Center that is open to the public.
