Duties & Responsibilities:
- Crop Cultivation:
- Planting seeds, transplanting seedlings, and caring for plants throughout their growth cycle.
- Monitoring environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity, and light to optimize plant growth.
- Watering, fertilizing, and applying organic pesticides or herbicides as needed.
- Pruning and trellising plants to promote healthy growth and maximize yield.
- Pest and Disease Management:
- Implementing organic pest and disease control methods, such as introducing beneficial insects or using natural predators to manage pests.
- Regularly inspecting plants for signs of pests or disease and taking appropriate action to mitigate risks.
- Maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in the greenhouse to prevent pest and disease outbreaks.
- Soil Management:
- Monitoring soil health and fertility, including pH levels and nutrient content.
- Amending soil with organic matter, compost, or other natural fertilizers to maintain soil fertility and structure.
- Greenhouse Maintenance:
- Monitoring and maintaining greenhouse infrastructure, including heating, ventilation, and irrigation systems.
- Repairing or replacing equipment and structures as needed to ensure optimal functioning.
- Cleaning and disinfecting greenhouse surfaces to prevent the spread of disease and pathogens.
- Harvesting and Post-Harvest Handling:
- Harvesting crops at the peak of ripeness to ensure quality and flavor.
- Sorting, washing, and packaging harvested produce according to organic standards.
- Properly storing harvested crops to maintain freshness and extend shelf life.
- Record-Keeping and Compliance:
- Maintaining detailed records of crop cultivation practices, including planting dates, crop rotations, and pest management activities.
- Ensuring compliance with organic certification standards and regulations, including documentation of organic inputs and practices.
- Participating in regular inspections by organic certifying agencies to verify compliance with organic standards.
