BHP Ventures works with teams across BHP and with our external partners to generate opportunities that support the company’s most important strategic priorities, engaging as closely with our C-suite as we do with our start-ups to drive mutually beneficial outcomes.
Our investment strategy is oriented around growth by accessing cutting-edge technologies that augment our current operations, enhancing our resource base in nickel, copper and other “future-facing” commodities, expanding into new market verticals and horizontals, and seeding potential new business lines.
We are seeking an Operations Specialist to join our BHP Ventures team.
As an Operations Specialist you will be a critical and highly visible member of our global team. You will be responsible for managing and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the BHP Ventures team and investment portfolio, in liaison with all team members as well as internal and external stakeholders.

Your key responsibilities as the Operations Specialist at BHP Ventures will include:
- Lead liaison with BHP’s internal due diligence functions (including tax, treasury, accounting, ethics, compliance and competition) to support investment activities.
- Support management of BHP Ventures’ pipeline of investment and ecosystem opportunities via accurate record keeping in our dedicated CRM.
- Act as the main point of contact to execute BHP Ventures’ wide operations and events, ensuring the continued smooth running of all processes including:
- Timely and regular collation of portfolio company reporting and subsequent updated to BHP recordkeeping systems.
- Facilitating regular capital calls for fund-to-fund investments, coordinating directly with third party fund managers.
- Owning the employee onboarding process end-to-end and supporting hiring efforts across the team as needed.
- Support Vice President Ventures with scheduling and tracking reporting deadlines and deliverables to ensure timely completion.
- Organization and development of BHP Ventures team events for culture building, external trainings as required.
- Ensuring continued compliance with confidential information protocols.
- Tracking BHP Ventures’ performance against our KPIs, capital and operational budget and ensuring team wide compliance with internal requirements and policies.
- Coordinating execution of legal document signoffs.
- Key point of contact to manage procurement related engagement with external vendors including purchasing, vendor onboarding and support.
- You will also play a pivotal role in supporting and enhancing our team’s world class corporate venture operations by:
- Enhancing the team’s internal efficiencies and communications by identifying opportunities to continually improve how we do our work;
- Communicating and collaborating with the utmost respect and integrity with all internal and external stakeholders; and
- Developing key relationships across BHP stakeholders.
By sitting within our broader Portfolio Strategy & Development function, which is accountable for BHP’s corporate strategy and its growth agenda, you may also have the opportunity to rotate to other teams critical in developing and delivering BHP’s most important strategic priorities.
- The position can be based based on New York, Seattle, or San Francisco, under flexible conditions and remotely.
What we are looking for:
- Candidates must have the ability to work full-time in the United States via a remote location.
- Candidates should have 7-10 years of experience working in an operations role in large technology, consulting or financial services firm. Experience in Venture Capital or Private Equity operations is preferred but not required.
- You must be comfortable and thrive in a fast-paced and unstructured working environment, which means you have a strong bias for action and impeccable attention to detail.
- You should have advanced stakeholder management abilities, as you will be expected to managed multiple internal and external stakeholder groups in parallel.
- You’ll need to take initiative and be resourceful. BHP is a big, global company, but we are a small, nimble team engaging with leading start-ups and you will be expected to make that integration work.
