JOB SUMMARY:
The Maintenance Worker I plays a crucial role in supporting the maintenance and upkeep of public facilities, streets, and other municipal assets within the City. This entry-level position involves a variety of manual labor tasks and requires a proactive and detail-oriented individual dedicated to maintaining the City’s infrastructure.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS:
- Perform routine grounds maintenance and landscaping such as mowing, trimming, planting, cutting, watering, and weeding to maintain the appearance of green spaces.
- Operate City vehicles and equipment as means of transportation to and from City facilities and for the delivery and distribution of material, parts, and supplies.
- Assist in street cleaning, sweeping, and debris removal to ensure clean and safe roadways for residents and visitors. Repair potholes, cracks, and damaged sidewalks under supervision. Conduct pressure washing.
- Assist in the maintenance and repair of City buildings, facilities, and amenities. Tasks may include painting, minor carpentry work, minor plumbing and electrical repairs.
- Operate and maintain equipment such as lawn mowers, trimmers, power tools, and small vehicles in a safe and efficient manner. Report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs promptly. Fuel vehicles regularly.
- Collect and dispose of trash, recycling, and waste from designated areas according to established schedules and procedures. Keep public areas clean and free of litter.
- Adhere to safety protocols, guidelines, and regulations while performing tasks. Report any safety hazards, incidents, or injuries to supervisors immediately.
- Serve as essential employee before, during, and after emergencies and disasters.
- Follow emergency procedures and protocols as needed.
- Perform any and all other duties/responsibilities/tasks as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
- Basic knowledge of maintenance techniques, equipment operation, and safety procedures.
- Effective communication skills to follow instructions and report issues.
- Ability to collaborate in a team environment to accomplish tasks efficiently.
- Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions and occasional weekend or evenings as needed for events or emergencies.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Previous experience in maintenance, landscaping, or related field is preferred, but not required.
- Availability to work flexible hours as needed for events or emergencies.
- Proficiency in English and Spanish is required.
- An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience will also be taken into consideration.

Pay: $15.00 - $16.50 per hour
