POSITION SUMMARY
Maintains the school buildings in such a condition of operating excellence that they present no problems or interruptions to the educational programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
This list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary in consultation with the employee(s) involved.

Assist in repair to building, grounds, and equipment

Maintain the safety and security of the building: secure doors and activate alarm system at end of shift

Perform tasks involving the use of common maintenance tools and materials.

Perform tasks requiring physical exertion.
-
Assist in moving equipment, erecting staging scaffolding and work relating to the various trades.

Remove snow and ice from walk and entry ways.
-
Operate cleaning and polishing equipment and move furniture.
-
After receiving instructions as to area and specific work assignments, assemble necessary cleaning supplies and equipment for transporting to the designated area. Depending upon the size of the school and the specific assignment performs any of the following duties:

Sweeps, mops, wet-washes and vacuums floors. Periodically polishes floors using buffing machine and polish.

Washes walls, ceilings and inside windows by hand, using water, cleaning solutions, sponge and cloths. May be called upon to wash outside windows and screens.

Gathers and disposes of trash; washes waste baskets and large refuse containers. Cleans lighting fixtures, tops of windows, door frames and other high places, using ladder when necessary.

Washes sinks and other plumbing fixtures, replaces things which are disposable such as towels, soap and toilet paper.

Supervise tasks carried out by any C-1 staff that may be assigned by supervisor.

Education/Experience/Qualifications

High school diploma or GED.

Previous work experience or training as a custodian preferred.

Knowledge of the use and care of common maintenance and custodial tools, materials, and equipment.

Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
-
Ability to follow and understand directions.
-
Ability to establish and maintain effective working conditions with students, staff and the community.

Must possess a valid Washington State Driver’s License
-
Ability to perform duties in accordance with all District and State requirements and policies.
WORKING CONDITIONS
To perform this job, an employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, equipment or controls; to talk or hear. The employee frequently must reach with arms and hands. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee frequently is required to squat, stoop or kneel, reach above the head and reach forward. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climb ladders. The employee frequently bends or twists at the neck and trunk more than the average person to perform job duties. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally may lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. The employee sometimes pushes or pulls large objects such as bleachers, tables, desks and scrubbing machines.
