Job description
Spectrix is seeking a full-time associate scientist to join the Primary Pharmacology Group at our client's site located in Groton, CT.
Job Responsibilities:
- Prepare cell reagents to support plate-based assays using a variety of cell automation equipment.
- Propagate and maintain various immortalized and primary cell lines to be plated in multi-well plates for weekly experiments.
- Cell lines will include human-derived cell lines such as human embryonic kidney cells, primary cells and possibly stem cells in addition to other non-human cell lines.
- Conduct weekly cell-based screens (multi-well plate-based formats) utilizing a variety of robotic equipment (Biomek, High Res, ECHO).
- Maintain iQue flow cytometry units performing routine maintenance and intensive weekly cleanings and provide troubleshooting assistance.
- Provide automation support for High Res robotic screening systems and other laboratory automation equipment.
- Order supplies as needed to deliver cell and protein reagents.
- Record experimental data in a provided electronic notebook according to the guidelines.
Job Requirements:
- BS in biology or a related field with a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in mammalian cell culture techniques.
- Excellent aseptic technique is required.
- Ability to quickly identify and remedy potential issues with cell culture.
- Flow cytometry experience is desired.
- Experience using standard laboratory equipment including incubators, microscopes, biosafety cabinets, etc. is preferred.
- Ability to keep accurate records using electronic notebooks and create common laboratory reagents including buffers and cell culture media.
- Must be able to work on multiple projects at one time, including supporting multiple groups simultaneously
- Computer skills required: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and coding skills.
- Ability to work in a high-throughput environment, stay organized, and to adhere to specific timelines.
- Must pay attention to detail, and express excellent written and verbal communication.
- The ability to work well with all team members, have a positive customer service focus, and be reliable are essential for the positions.
