Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provision of Patient Care:*
- Performs physical therapy treatments as outlined by and under the supervision of a Physical Therapist. Treatments may include but shall not be limited to: gait training, transfer training, therapeutic exercises, application of heat or cold, ultrasound, massage, paraffin, electrical stimulation, iontophoresis and CPM application.2. Performs therapy services with Home Health patients as assigned.
Communication:
- Maintain appropriate patient records including daily treatment charting, documentation on the Multidisciplinary Care Plan and Teaching Record and any required communication to the referring physician.
- Communicate effectively verbally and with written communications to referring physicians.
- Provide timely and accurate billing information specific to patient interventions provided.4. Maintains effective relationships with physicians, physician's offices, other departments within the hospital, coworkers and patients.Administrative:
- Maintain patient and employee confidentiality.
- Maintain adequate attendance and punctuality.
- Maintain a professional appearance and good personal hygiene.
- Participation in departmental staff meetings.
- Demonstration of proper safety practices in the clinic and on the hospital floors.
- Participation in the established weekend and holiday staffing rotations.
- Participation in the Performance Improvement process in the Rehabilitation Services Department.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Knowledge of the theory, techniques and practices of accepted physical therapy treatments for geriatric, adult, adolescent and child patient populations.
- Knowledge of the English language and possess good composition skills for the purposes of written communication.
Skills:
- Skilled in the administration of physical therapy treatments in the inpatient, outpatient and home health care settings
- Skilled in accurately assessing a patient's progress on the basis on judgmental criteria and measurable or verifiable criteria.
- Skilled in providing training of non-medical personnel to assist with a patient's home program/management.
- Skilled in computerized spreadsheet program or ability to be trained to use the program.
- Good oral and written communication skills•Good interpersonal skills and customer focus
Abilities:
- Ability to communicate effectively while maintaining good working relationships with coworkers, managers, hospital staff, physicians, patients and outside customers.
- Ability to collect and interpret data.
- Ability to assemble and dismantle overhead trapeze and traction equipment.
Job Requirements :
Education and Experience:
Education:
- Graduation from a Commission on Accreditation of Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) accredited Physical Therapy Assistant Program.
Experience:
- Preference of 1 year of acute care patient clinical experience.
- Required Licensure and/or Certifications:
- Possession of a valid license as a Physical Therapy Assistant issued by the Board of Medical Examiners, State of California or eligible for license.
- American Heart Association BLS CPR certification.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Position will require frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, twisting and reaching.
- Frequently requires lifting in excess of 50lbs and pushing/pulling up to 50 lbs.
- Potential exposure to radiation, chemicals and bio hazard which will require use of PPE.
