Job Overview:
Reporting directly to the Manager, Mechanical Capital Projects, the Electrical Engineer II will develop specifications, drawings, procedures, system functional descriptions, and bid documents for on-board and rolling stock equipment. Inspect new and rehabbed cars and locomotives. Maintain rolling stock drawings, diagrams, and schematics for rehabilitation programs. Update existing service manuals and technical instructions. Create comprehensive reports on project statuses and results. Review vendor quotes and proposals for specification compliance. Evaluate vendor facilities and monitor vendor’s work performance to ensure compliance with Metra’s policies and procedures. Work with departments to troubleshoot complex technical problems and develop processes to mitigate systematic issues. Participate in design review meetings for new equipment and rolling stock. This position is issued a cellular phone. Performs other related duties as assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.
Experience:
- Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- In addition to #1, must have five (5) years of engineering experience preferably in a railroading, transportation, manufacturing or related industry.
- Must have a working knowledge of relay and solid state circuits.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with emphasis in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and organizational skills.
- Must be able to work independently and manage multiple projects in a demanding environment.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Preferred
- Working knowledge of HVAC systems preferred.
- Working knowledge of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) preferred.
- Knowledge of Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulations preferred.
- Experience in technical writing preferred.
- Licensed Registered Engineer preferred.
