Kritter Kare's Howliday Inn located in Columbia, IL is looking for Dog Care Lodging/Enrichment Counselors to join our 15 person strong team. We are located on 8802 Summer Road. Our ideal candidate is attentive, motivated, reliable and committed to the care of dogs. These staff members must be able to work shifts from 6:00/6:30-12pm OR 1:30/3pm-9pm. These team members will be asked to work a minimum of 24 hours a week (will include some weekend shifts) with some flexibility regarding which days worked. PLEASE NOTE: As with all team members, a training/probationary period is required. This new hire training can last up to 60-90 days based on number of hours worked per week. During this training/probationary period, the pay rate will be $14.50 for this position. As soon as training expectations are met & it is determined that the new staff member is the right fit for the position, the new staff member will be compensated at the pay rate listed for the position they were hired to perform. Also monthly tip distribution will be applied to paycheck.
This team of staff members will focus on the following:
Responsibilities
- Ensure rooms are properly set-up for scheduled arrivals for current & next day
- Coordinate lodging dog check-in to ensure completion of physical check and monitor first few hours for excessive stress. Take measures to reduce stress and/or minimize property damage as needed. Ensure needed warning notes are properly posted.
- Ensure dogs are given proper potty and exercise breaks (3 potty breaks/2 Ten-Fifteen minute periods of exercise/playtimes/mental activities per dog. If the dog is approved for group play, they may participate per Dog Daycare Manager’s instructions).
- Completion of extra activities (ex: Snif-faries, nature hikes, puzzle play, etc). Take photos or videos & upload to canine guest daily report card. Note completion on run card.
- Ensure dogs are fed/provided medications as outlined in procedures
- Review lodging reports on all dogs daily to ensure proper amount of food consumption and eliminations for length of stay. Take action as needed to resolve problems in eating or eliminations. Consult with supervisor and management as needed. Counsel staff that are not properly completing reports.
- Monitor stress levels of all dogs daily and take action as needed to minimize. Consult with supervisor and management as needed.
- Departure days – ensure reports are up to date and personal property is ready for client pick-up.
- Ensure lodging rooms and general area is kept clean per Housekeeping check-lists.
- Create & maintain lodging dog profiles
- Ensure dog warnings are added to point of sale system, posted during stay and filed properly between stays
- Identify & manage deep cleaning needs.
- Monitor supply, tool and equipment stocks and request as needed.
- Participate in monthly planning meetings.
- Assist other departments as needed.
- Perform other tasks as needed.
Qualifications
- High school graduate or GED preferred
- Good oral communication skills
- Previous work experience demonstrating dependability
- Previous experience providing animal care (personal or job related)
- Self-motivated, independent worker
- Proven ability to follow instructions and learn new things
- Ability to work/thrive in a team environment
- Demonstrated flexibility and proven coping skills
