Seeking a traction power engineer in the Atlanta metro area for a program with MARTA.
The primary responsibility of the Traction Power Engineer is to prepare contract drawings and specifications for the design, procurement, installation, testing and commissioning of new traction power substation and distribution system, and/or replacement of the service-aged equipment at the existing substations. Duties also include providing design support during construction. MARTA’s traction power substation and DC distribution system consists of the following subsystems:
· Medium Voltage (27kV Class) indoor and outdoor switchgear and circuit breakers.
· Extra-heavy duty traction transformers.
· Extra-heavy duty traction 12-pulse diode rectifiers.
· 750 VDC Switchgear and Circuit Breakers.
· AC and DC Busducts
· NFPA 130 compliant positive and negative feeder cables.
· Protective relaying.
· Substation SCADA system.
· Wayside 150lb/yd contact rail and appurtenances and sectionalizing switches.
· Emergency trip and blue light stations and fault transfer-trip system including conversion of the existing pilot-wire based system to PLC-Fiberoptic based system.
· Storage Yard Traction Power Distribution System.
· Maintenance and Service Facility Traction Power System stinger rails and pit power outlets replacement including DC power distribution contactor switchboard and all shop audio-visual indication and alarm circuits.
Duties also include:
· Assisting MARTA’s Engineering Department in preparation of contract drawings and specifications for the design, procurement, installation, testing and commissioning of the replacement equipment for the Passenger Stations Auxiliary Power System.
· Support MARTA’s consultants in implementing a systemwide corrosion control and stray current monitoring and mitigation system.
· Witness traction power and electrical equipment factory tests to assure compliance with the industry standards.
· Investigate system faults and prepare reports of the probable cause and suggest corrective actions.
· Assist MARTA’s Electrical Power and Electronics Maintenance Department in troubleshooting faulty circuits and recommend solutions.
· Assist MARTA in expansion of its Streetcar project.
