Surgicare of Brooklyn is seeking to fill a Full time Pre/Post Op Nurse position. The Pre/Post Op Nurse must be a professional nurse who has clinical and administrative responsibility for the pre/post-operative area. The Pre/Post Op Nurse is responsible and accountable for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of pre/post anesthesia nursing care of an assigned group of patients at an Ambulatory Surgery Center.

- Licensed in NY as a registered professional nurse (RN) or licensed practice nurse (LPN).
- Post Anesthesia nursing with critical care experience required.
- BLS and ACLS required.
- Certification for pre or post anesthesia nursing preferred.
- Current IV certification from an approved facility preferred.
- Language skills: Ability to read, write and communicate effectively both written and orally.
- Computer and keyboard proficiency.

Responsibilities:
- Directs patient care and indirect patient care, medical record preparations and reviews for completeness
- Is responsible and accountable for post anesthesia ambulatory nursing process
- Follows guidelines of ASPAN and ANA consisting of the six steps of assessment, nursing diagnosis, outcome identification, planning and evaluation of perioperative care with recognition of age related needs for adult, geriatric and pediatric patients
- Establishes, implements, and monitors, in conjunction with other members of the patient care team, standards of patient care within framework of the standards of this Center. Assesses and responds to individual, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of the patient
- Directs Licensed Practical Nurses and unlicensed assistive personnel I perioperative team towards safe, competent, compassionate, individualized and goal-directed patient care
- Conducts narcotic counts in the specified manner with another registered nurse, if necessary
- Maintains inventory of narcotics and controlled drugs requisitioned by the anesthesiologist for the operating room. Oversees drug inventory responsibilities for the Center
- Implements and insures that physician orders are performed including orders delegated to other health care professionals
- Demonstrates understanding and interpretation of diagnostic measures such as lab tests, radiology exams and EKG
- Ensures that the Code carts are fully equipped, defibrillators are in operational readiness and that daily checks are completed
- Conducts patient postoperative follow up calls and completes all documentations within the defined timeframe
- Changes gas cylinders as necessary to maintain medical gas system integrity. Ensures communication of need for replacement tanks or system problems. Monitors gas outlets for shutoff at end of each day
