Type of Employment: Permanent; Full-Time, benefitted
Work Schedule: Full-Time (1.0 FTE: 80hrs per 2-wk pay period); multiple shifts available (0700-1530, 0700-1730, 0900-1730, 0900-1930, 1100-1930) with on-call required weekends, weeknights and holidays.
Est. Base Salary: $35.38 - $59.11/ hour
*Preferred Experience: Best qualified candidates for these opportunities are Registered Nurses with at least 2 years of recent successful OR scrub and circulating experience.
The Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis, Indiana has 11 operating rooms that service 14 different surgical services. The OR Registered Nurse provides assistance to the surgeons and other team members during a variety of surgical procedures and participates with the surgical team in planning and implementing complex surgical procedures.
Duties:
- Performing, scrubbing, circulating duties on surgical procedures for a variety of surgical services
- Managing the care of the surgical patient in a manner which maintains a safe environment for staff, patients and families
- Ensuring compliance with regulatory body standards and hospital policies and procedures
- Maintaining standards of efficiency and cost effectiveness
- Promoting a learning environment for all team members
- Serving as a preceptor for new employees, students and physicians in the hospital setting and fostering an environment which promotes learning and growth.

Basic Requirements:
- United States Citizenship
- Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
- Current, full, active, and unrestricted licensure as a Registered Nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e. Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia
Physical Requirements: Visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling and pushing.

Pay Grade Determinations: The qualifications of each selected candidate will be evaluated thoroughly to determine the appropriate pay grade and step, based on degree(s), and duration and quality of professional nursing experience, in accordance with VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-6 Nurse Qualification Standard.
The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level/step within a grade:
- Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required.
- Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience.
- Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience.
- Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required.
- Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience.
