The Director of Accounting and Auditing Content will have strong technical accounting knowledge in US GAAP, including complex topics such as revenue recognition, lease accounting, and consolidations. The director will create, edit, and manage a portfolio of financial accounting and auditing training courses. The courses will be regulatory-compliant and provide timely, practical, and value-added training to accounting professionals seeking content covering US GAAP, GAAS, SEC updates, and other A&A areas. By performing effective research of relevant topics and applying their knowledge and experience, the director creates and updates course presentations, chapters, content summaries, and learning questions. These courses will provide Continuing Professional Education (CPE) for CPAs and other accounting and financial professionals and should prepare them for their roles as an accounting practitioners in public accounting or industry.
Location:
This position is a remote position. Travel may be required for team meetings, presentations, training sessions, or customer demands.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Duties/Responsibilities:
Assessment of market needs for A&A training

Research technical standards and standard setting activities of the FASB, PCC, AICPA, PCAOB, SEC, and other appropriate standard setters and regulatory agencies.

Assess market potential by performing needs assessment of customers and competitors to identify growth opportunities and threats to current market position.

Identify trends and needs of accounting practitioners in the A&A field and collaborate with marketing leadership in developing suggestions for either new or updates to existing courses in the curriculum which address emerging and ongoing professional needs.
Development of course materials

Lead the A&A content creation and address the learning needs of A&A customers and CPA exam candidates.

Using appropriate adult learning approaches, design, develop and periodically update training courses across various modalities which address identified needs in the accounting profession. Courses must conform with relevant National Association of State Board of Accountancy (NASBA) and other relevant CPE compliance standard setters’ requirements.

Create slide decks, book chapters, knowledge questions, articles, and other materials for courses, presentations, and training sessions; and respond to customer questions regarding same.

Coordinate as needed with other operational teams to assure timely delivery of course materials
Write technical accounting blog posts, articles, and other marketing materials to support marketing efforts to a wide range of audiences.
Other responsibilities

Assist Surgent leadership in pursuing business growth opportunities involving implementing new technologies or other initiatives which increase the appeal of Surgent’s curriculum to an expanding population of potential customers.

Participate in other ad hoc initiatives which help attain the goals of Surgent leadership.

Be the primary resource to answer technical participant questions arising from live and re-broadcast courses.
Required Skills/Abilities:

Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent related work experience required.
Active CPA (Certified Public Accountant) required.
1+ year of experience with US GAAP and technical accounting matters required.
5+ years in instructional design experience in accounting and auditing topics and skills preferred.
1+ year experience in public accounting preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
