Grant Writing:
Job Summary:
The Bid and Grant Writer (“Writer”) oversees the bid/proposal submission and grant application process from beginning to end while working collaboratively across teams and leveraging the knowledge of internal Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). The Writer will write successful bids/proposals to procure MDHHS contracts to meet the needs of children and families within the community and also identify and apply for various grants that meet the organization’s needs.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Requests for Proposal Submissions:
- Review State of Michigan SIGMA Vendor Self Service frequently to view Requests for Proposals (RFP).
- Meet with internal Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to determine which Requests for Proposals will be submitted.
- Write, edit, proofread, format, and prepare proposals and bids that secures the agency contracts with MDHHS Bureau of Grants and Purchasing.
- Analyze Request for Proposals (RFP) to identify requirements for assigned proposal, including participation in all pre-bidders conferences.
- Develop proposals by organizing and compiling agency/program information including objectives, service implementation and methods, staffing, budget, quality assurance and client outcomes.
- Work collaboratively with agency teams and SMEs to ensure content aligns with the agency’s experience and past service performance, in addition to qualifications of proposed staffing, proposed staff training, and the proposed program implementation (work plan).
- Ability to break down large amounts of information into practical, clear, and hands-on content.
- Meet deadlines by establishing priorities and target dates for information gathering writing, review, approval, and submission.
- Review Award Recommendation responses from the State of Michigan, including rater comments, applying knowledge to future proposals.
Grant Applications:
- Prepares grant applications, ensuring the applications focus on the conditions, restrictions, and goals of the sponsoring organization.
- Negotiates with grant sponsors and seeks to ensure that both parties have understanding and agreement about special details.
- Works collaboratively with internal stakeholders to ensure that operations conform to the terms of the agreement, and that maximum efficiency is achieved.
- Works with SMEs to obtain their understanding of the necessity of following proper procedures in achieving project goals.
- Works with SMEs to understand and research grant opportunities to meet specific programming needs within the community.
- Works collaboratively with internal stakeholders to communicate available grants, applicable criteria, and determine if the grant is pursued.
- Compiles necessary information for the application process through collaboration with other employees, database research, and other factfinding actions and meetings.
- Ensures grant applications, reports, and other materials are submitted on time and within application parameters.
- Develops and maintains master files on grants and paperwork connected to programs funded by grants.
- Works with Development team to steward grantor/granting organizations.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to interpret financial data and prepare budgets and financial grant reports.
- Ability to be discreet with personal information that may be needed for some grants such as employee salaries or upcoming projects.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in related field.
- Grant/proposal writing certification preferred.
- At least two years of experience in grant applications and administration (non-profit and child welfare experience preferred).
- At least two years of experience in bid writing and procurement (non-profit and child welfare experience preferred).
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
