This position will work onsite in our headquarters near Siloam Springs, Arkansas.
Overall Job Functions
· The Safety Clerk will be responsible for auditing drivers’ Hours of Service, data entry, Driver Qualification file auditing and maintenance, documentation, and overall administrative support to the Safety Department. The Safety Clerk must stay current on Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMSCA) regulations and rulings
Specific responsibilities and tasks
· Hours of Service – ensure that all drivers and the company are in compliance with all FMCSA regulations
o Audit HOS records for accuracy and compliance
o Audit on duty and driving shifts to determine if they are in compliance with 8 hr, 11 hr, 14 hr and 70 hr regulations
o Audit supporting documents to determine if HOS duty status was recorded properly
o Audit use of Personal Conveyance to determine if it was used properly and in compliance with all FMCSA and company regulations and polices
o Audit Pre-trip and Post-trip on duty time to determine if it is sufficient to properly inspect equipment and to remain safe and compliant
o Prepare and present reports for management regarding any violations that are discovered with recommendations for corrective action
o Counsel, instruct and as needed perform disciplinary action with drivers in connection with their HOS records
· Audit SMS reports
o Ensure we have a copy of all DOT inspections
o Request copies for any missing inspections
o Provide Manager of Safety with recommendations for inspections that should be disputed through DataQs
o Verify that all vehicle violations have been repaired as required
o Verify that Out of Service orders are followed, and verify that the driver does not perform work and/or the equipment is not operated until all criteria are satisfied
·Troubleshoot and Resolve ELD issues
o Troubleshoot issues with an ELD reported by drivers
o Contact necessary ELD support for assistance in troubleshooting and resolving ELD issues in a timely manner
o Determine when an ELD cannot be resolved requiring the driver to use paper logs
o Make the necessary notifications to Safety and Operations to route a driver on paper logs to the yard for repair/replacement within the time frame required by DOT
· All other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
· Proper phone etiquette when dealing with drivers and office personnel
· Proficient in Microsoft programs
· Able to prioritize with a sense of urgency and follow through
· Knowledge of FMCSA regulations with an emphasis on vehicle maintenance, driver fitness and HOS compliance
· 3+ years transportation safety experience preferred
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
