The position of Director of Environmental Services is to maintain Yuma District Hospital facilities and grounds in such a manner as to provide a safe and hazard free workplace in accordance with the facility’s safety, infection control, and quality assurance programs, and also in accordance with local, state and federal laws regarding facility operations.
Essential Duties:
- This is a working director role, director works side by side with environmental services staff in all aspects of plant and facility maintenance.
- Plans, organizes, develops, directs and provides "hands on" support for the total operation of the maintenance departments and housekeeping/janitorial/laundry department to ensure the facility is maintained in a safe, efficient, attractive and comfortable manner.
- Performs weekly walk-through to oversee the physical condition of the physical plant.
- Coordinates maintenance and housekeeping/janitorial/laundry services with all departments.
- Supervises and performs interior and exterior building maintenance and refurbishment as required.
- Assures that outside services are properly completed/supervised in accordance with work orders.
- Monitor expenditures.
- Supervises the maintenance of plant systems and contracts for major repairs or replacements. Schedules and budgets major repairs or replacements.
- Supervises housekeeping/janitorial/laundry/maintenance staff and prepares employee evaluations.
- Participate in the Safety and Emergency Preparedness and other committees as necessary.
- Meets with vendors and orders supplies.
- Updates material safety data sheets in MSDS books.
- Communicates regularly with other Management Team members.
Required Education and Experience:
- High school education or equivalent.
- Five years experience e in general commercial housekeeping and general building maintenance procedures.
- Demonstrate working knowledge of hvac, boiler systems, electrical, plumbing, construction and carpentry, and infection control.
- Experience in supervising & training personnel.
- Experience and knowledge in working with suppliers & vendors.
- Must have patience and tact, and ability to interact with the patients and visitors to the facility.
- Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately in a wide variety of circumstances, both verbally and in writing.
Working Conditions
- Well-lighted, well-ventilated office space for administrative duties.
- All areas inside facility.
- Outside facility/outdoors, grounds, parking lots, and other outside areas.
- Work areas subject to noise, distractions, and interruptions; possibility of cuts, burns, electrical shocks, and chemical burns exist, as well as slippery floors and possibility of muscle strain.
- May be exposed to communicable disease and/or verbal abuse and injury from irrational visitors.
- Interacting with the general public, often in adverse conditions; many patients and their families are under emotional stress dealing with issues of illness, hospice, death, and grief.
- Frequently changing conditions in which one must be attentive and able to respond appropriately.
- Will be required to travel to all Facilities within our area on a regular basis.
- Appropriately represent organization in dress and demeanor.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- May require requires sitting, standing, walking, bending, twisting, kneeling, stooping, crouching, grasping, finger dexterity, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, climbing and crawling during working hours.
- Works beyond normal working hours and occasionally works weekends and holidays, as needed.
- May be called during off-duty hours to respond to emergencies or unusual circumstances.
- May be required to lift, push, pull and move equipment and supplies in excess of fifty pounds and occasionally lift items in excess of one hundred pounds.
- Employee works inside and outside of the building and may be subjected to extreme weather conditions.
- May be subjected to chemicals and respiratory hazards.

Pay: $69,638.00 - $108,139.00 per year
