MEDICAL ASSISTANT DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Medical Assistants greets and checks in patients in a professional manner.
- Schedules new patient and follow up appointments for patients.
- Provide patient information packets to new patients.
- Reviews appointment management to confirm status of appointments.
- Prepares patient medical record for appointments, ensuring all required information is in the medical record.
- Prepares examination rooms for patient examinations, keeping rooms neat, clean and stocked with supplies.
- Escorts patients to examination rooms and prepares them for the physician.
- Measures and documents patient vital signs.
- Reviews patient medication list and updates accordingly to include pharmacy preference information.
- Records patient’s medical history, allergies, family history, social history, reason for visit, and information such as test results, patient complaints, prescription refills and physician orders in the medical record.
- Assists physician during patient examination if needed.
- Collects blood or other laboratory specimens, and prepares them for testing.
- Administers medications per physician orders following the Six Rights.
- Per physician orders, authorizes drug refills and provides prescription information to pharmacies.
- Medical Assistants educates patients in treatments and procedures per physician’s instructions.
- Completes check out procedure for patients.
- Obtains prior authorization/approval from insurance companies for procedures, medications and hospital admissions.
- Reviews and processes incoming labs results, forwarding results to the ordering physician. Reports critical labs to the ordering/covering physician immediately and documents accordingly in patient medical record
- Accurately documents and completes all physician orders and health concerns and notifies physician when applicable.
- Inventories and coordinates ordering of supplies, equipment and medications with the clinic manager/lead.
- Completes clinic logs and equipment checks.
- Maintains competency in all required aspects of the EHR system as outlined on the EHR Competency Checklist.
- Performs general office duties included but not limited to answering phones, scanning/queuing, correspondence processing, instant messaging physician’s and office closure procedures.
- Effectively communicate verbally and/or written with physicians, patients and internal and external customers.
- Medical Assistants performs Medical Receptionist duties as outlined on the Medical Receptionist job description.
- Travel Required: Must provide proof and maintain a valid driver’s license and auto insurance.
SALARY BASED ON YEARS OF EXPERIENCE
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.00 - $21.32 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
