Packaging Engineer

Job Summary:
Packaging Engineer develops packaging based on internal and external standards. The Engineer works to improve Nifco standards to increase profit and reduce defects due to packaging when parts are sent to Nifco’s customers.
Essential Functions:
· Communicates with external customers regarding scheduling and all aspects of packaging including negotiating, pricing, and testing of packaging.
· Support changes of packaging throughout the entire MFG process (finished goods packaging, WIP packaging, packaging instructions, etc.)
· Communicate effectively with Fabricators/Suppliers
· Initiate Capital Packet process.
· Design packaging conditions that meet external customer expectations while maintaining part quality. Provide alternative expandable options to meet customer returnable condition.
· Analyze data to determine compliance with customer specifications. Check various customer portal to complete open actions
· When applicable, review shipping data and submit to customer packaging reimbursement requests. Help facilitate tote distribution to outsourcers.
· Provide timing and status updates to Project Engineers, Sales, MFG, etc. regarding packaging. Supports RFQ activity to assure quoted part includes all potential internal cost burden.
· Actively seek and participate within cost savings and improvement activities.
· May occasionally be required to travel offsite, sometime over night by land and/or air and possible international.
· Follow documented ISO & TS16949 systems.
· Follow all safety guidelines and expectations.
· Behave in a manner that enhances the success of the Department and Company.
· Other Management assigned tasks as required.
Education:
Bachelor Degree in Industrial Engineering/ Logistics/ Supply Chain; or 5+ years of experience in related field.
Skills/Experience/Requirements:
· Familiarity with 3D modeling software. Solidworks is Preferred.
· Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate cross-functionally (Written, listening, and verbal)
· Must possess a high level of concentration and ability to focus on details
· Must be able to demonstrate leadership ability and effectively participate and contribute to team projects
· Must be able to utilize computer software to generate internal and external correspondence, charts and graphs.
· Must be familiar with Microsoft Office, Project, PowerPoint and Excel. Ideally be familiar with Oracle
· Must be able to work overtime as required with notification. As well as being able to travel offsite, occasionally overnight (by auto and/or air). Must be a licensed driver with a safe DMV record.
