The Health Information Management Technician ensures that all chart requests are processed as requested. This role is responsible for the scanning; form ID assignment; pulling filing; purging of all completed medical charts; and filing of loose medical reports/labs. In addition, the Health Information Technician reviews medical records after discharge for completeness in compliance with the Hospital’s policies and procedures, Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), and state and federal requirements. The Health Information Technician assures that patient abstracts are correctly entered into the chart deficiency system.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
- At least one (1) year experience in medical terminology and hands-on experience working with computer.
Responsibility Highlights
- Collect all discharged patients charts from designated area on a daily basis.
- Combine current patient chart with any previous patient discharges for a unit record.
- Assemble discharged patient charts according to assembly list.
- Place assembled chart in proper folder according to medical record number.
- Analyze medical records of discharge patients for completeness and accuracy according to department and hospital policy and procedures.
- Enter deficiencies into computer for physician completion.
- Prepare medical records for scanning by removing staples, straightening out bends or creases, and/or put charts in appropriate order.
- Place chart in the scanner and scan documents accurately and efficiently.
