General Definition of Work
The director of student wellness, under limited supervision, performs senior level work with considerable decision-making discretion planning, coordinating, implementing, and leading plans in student health, behavioral health, social work, and psychology. Programs include coordinated school health, social emotional learning, mental health programming, community health partnerships, McKinney Vento, psychology and crisis, and trauma informed programming. This position focuses on securing and connecting students with physical, mental, behavioral, and other health services while supporting whole school, district and community health initiatives. Employee performs advanced and supervisory work to carry out Board of Education policies, legislative requirements and procedures related to student and school health under the direction of the Associate Superintendent of Student Services.

Place of Work
The normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.
Essential Functions
- Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures
- Lead, manage, supervise, and evaluate assigned staff/programs
- Interpret and apply local, state, and federal policies to program implementation
- Develop, plan, implement, monitor, and assess department goals and objectives; make recommendations for program improvement
- Lead the development and facilitation of quality training for all student services professionals in the district
- Lead the development and facilitation of training for administrators and non-counselor support staff in areas of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), suicide assessment, threat assessment, homeless and foster students and crisis response
- Organize and manage grief counseling response and provide technical assistance at individual district sites
- Coordinate crisis and violence interventions for the district
- Ensure the continuing effectiveness of systems through appropriate testing and modification
- Facilitate staff meetings and attend other related meetings as needed/required
- Consult with administrators, agency representatives and counselors relative to child abuse, neglect and dependency issues
- Monitor and participate in the development and administration of the department budget
- Represent the district on community boards and committees related to child health and educational outcomes
- Complete local, state, or federal surveys and reports accurately and promptly
- Participate in professional development workshops and leadership training
- Create an inclusive environment with positive communication/public relations
- Perform related work as assigned or required
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Comprehensive in-depth knowledge and understanding of the principles, practices, and procedures of public school system policies and school and behavioral health
- Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements applicable to school system school and behavioral health
- Thorough knowledge of county and school board policies, procedures, and standards regarding behavioral health
- Ability to maintain professional and emotional control under stress
- Ability to reflect appropriate response to situations, while maintaining a professional and personal demeanor
- Ability to learn and use specialized tools, equipment or software related to business needs

Education and Experience
- Master's degree in counseling, social work, school psychology, public health, school nursing or related area required
- Valid NC license in one of the above areas or ability to obtain preferred
- Minimum of five (5) years' experience in related area preferred
- Equivalent combination of experience and education
Special Requirements
- Possess and maintain a valid Driver's License or ability to provide own transportation
- Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings
