The Door is an unparalleled model for youth development, offering a comprehensive range of integrated services within two sites for up to 11,000 New York City youth each year. Behavioral health and mental health services was a cornerstone of The Door’s founding and remains a centerpiece of the organization’s work. As part of a comprehensive youth development center, mental health services are now fully embedded across all programs at The Door. Mental health professionals are available to provide client-centered, strength-based, and trauma-informed care to young people for psychotherapy, psychiatry, crisis intervention, group therapy, collaborative care, and case management.
Position Overview:
The Managing Director of Mental Health Services will provide leadership, supervision, and direction for mental health services at The Door. The Managing Director is responsible for delivery of care in compliance with NYS Office of Mental Health Article 31 regulations; administration, quality improvement and risk management; grants management; strategic planning; management and staff development; and decision-making as a member of the leadership team.
Responsibilities:

Oversee the administration and implementation of all mental health programs and services at The Door.

Recruit, supervise, train, evaluate, and coach licensed providers, mental health program management, and staff. Provide clinical guidance to other members of the team as needed.

Implement and update policies and procedures for mental health programs and services.

Ensure programs operate in compliance with all regulations, best practices, and guidelines with government requirements, including NYSOMH Article 31.

Develop and manage all programmatic budgets in partnership with Finance and Program Directors.

Assist in writing proposals and ensure accurate and timely reporting for all contractual obligations for public and private funding, in collaboration with Program Directors and the Development department.

Develop goals and benchmarks for mental health services, conduct chart reviews and audits, identify opportunities for improvement, and develop project workplans when needed.

Oversee quality improvement, credentialing, site visits/audits, risk management, and compliance.

Develop and maintain external relationships within the field in support of community needs and the agencies’ programs and initiatives.

Partner with Program Directors to design, develop, and implement new initiatives, workflows, and policies and procedures for mental health services.

Lead and participate as a member of agency-wide committees and workgroups and represent The Door at conferences, task forces, community meetings, and appropriate legislative groups.

Work as a part of the senior leadership team to conduct strategic planning within the specified program areas as well as on larger organizational planning.

Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a similar field; LCSW strongly preferred

Possession of a valid license and current registration to practice in a mental health field issued by the New York State Education Department

Minimum seven years post-master’s supervisory experience in mental health settings and systems; direct clinical experience and clinical supervision required

At least 5 years supervising managers and increasing responsibility overseeing service delivery, program development, and evaluation of mental health services

Understanding of current and emerging issues in mental health and social services coupled with working knowledge of NYSOMH and NYSDOH rules, regulations

Knowledge of third party billing guidelines and compliance

Demonstrated ability to build internal and external collaborations and partnerships

Demonstrated creativity and innovation in programming

Ability to function effectively, independently, and efficiently in a dynamic work environment

Knowledge of positive youth development principles; awareness of social issues impacting youth

Experience collaborating with a diverse interdisciplinary team

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking
Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday - Friday, 35 hours per week
Salary: $130,000 - $140,000. Commensurate with experience, plus a generous benefits package
