Marcum Search is partnered with our law firm client in the search for a Litigation Secretary. We are seeking a highly qualified Civil Litigation Secretary with expertise in medical malpractice cases to join their innovative legal team. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in legal secretarial work, with a focus on managing complex civil litigation cases, particularly in the realm of medical malpractice. This role is on-site in the Glendale, CA area. Salary range is between $80K-$85K.
Responsibilities:
Case Management:
- Assist attorneys in managing a diverse caseload of civil litigation matters, with a primary emphasis on medical malpractice cases.
Legal Documentation:
- Draft, review, and proofread legal documents such as pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and responses.
Calendar Management:
- Maintain attorney calendars, scheduling deadlines, court appearances, and meetings related to litigation cases.
Client Communication:
- Communicate with clients, witnesses, and experts to gather information and coordinate meetings or depositions.
Research:
- Conduct legal research on case-specific issues, statutes, and regulations relevant to medical malpractice litigation.
File Management:
- Organize and maintain physical and electronic files, ensuring all case documents are accurate and accessible.
Court Filings:
- Prepare and file legal documents with state and federal courts, adhering to filing deadlines and procedures.
Billing and Timekeeping:
- Assist with time entry and billing processes, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
Trial Preparation:
- Coordinate trial preparation activities, including exhibit preparation, witness coordination, and trial logistics.
Administrative Support:
- Provide general administrative support such as answering phones, scheduling appointments, and handling correspondence.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience as a legal secretary or assistant, with specific experience in civil litigation and in medical malpractice field.
- Skills: Proficiency in legal research and writing, excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Software Proficiency: Familiarity with legal case management software (e.g., ProLaw), MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), and electronic filing systems.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with clients, attorneys, and court personnel.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; additional certification or coursework in legal studies preferred.
