Overview:
The Assistant General Manager of Business Opportunities plays a pivotal role in WHPDA's strategic leadership, responsible for overseeing existing businesses and identifying, evaluating, and leveraging new opportunities aligned with the organization's objectives. Additionally, this position provides direct oversight for critical business support functions, including Facilities Maintenance, Information Technology, Billboards and Hospitality.
Responsibilities:
Business Management and Leadership:
· Oversee the management of WHPDA's self-managed businesses and provide leadership and guidance to the teams directly responsible for each.
Supervise WHPDA’s Facilities Maintenance, Information Technology, Billboards and Hospitality Departments.
· Manage third-party management agreements to ensure adherence to contractual agreements.
· Manage third-party or self-managed hospitality service providers to ensure alignment with the organization’s standards and goals.
Opportunity Identification and Evaluation:
· Research, analyze, and monitor market trends, customer needs, and industry developments to identify potential business opportunities, such as new markets, partnerships, acquisitions, product expansions or innovative ventures.
· Conduct comprehensive feasibility studies, risk assessments, and financial analyses to evaluate the viability and potential impact of each identified opportunity and present findings to the executive team for informed decision-making.
· Work closely with the General Manager and other executives to integrate hospitality initiatives into the overall corporate strategy.
Strategic Planning and Collaboration:
· Collaborate with other executives and department heads to align business opportunities with the overall corporate strategy.
· Develop strategic plans to leverage identified opportunities and execute initiatives accordingly.
· Lead initiatives to develop new hospitality offerings or enhance existing ones to meet changing consumer preferences and market demands.
Relationship Building and Expansion:
· Build and maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders, potential partners, and industry leaders to contribute to WHPDA's growth.
· Lead the entry of WHPDA into new markets or industries, assessing market potential, competition, regulatory factors, and risks.
· Develop market penetration strategies to ensure successful expansion.
Innovation and Performance Measurement:
· Stay abreast of emerging technologies, market disruptors, and industry innovations to drive innovation within the organization.
· Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success and impact of current businesses and implemented opportunities.
Team Management and Development:
· Build and lead a team responsible for business development and opportunity evaluation.
· Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure team success.
Administrative Duties:
· Prepare an Annual Plan and budget for all businesses under the responsibility of the Assistant General Manager of Business Opportunities.
· Prepare and provide regular reports to the General Manager and Board.
· Represent WHPDA and managed businesses at meetings and functions.
· Serve as a contact person for community government departments and work closely with governmental entities having jurisdiction to insure conformance with applicable laws and regulations.
· Perform other duties as assigned by the WHPDA General Manager.
Supervisor Responsibility:
Oversees the supervision of personnel, which includes hiring, work allocation, training, problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance; provides guidance and feedback for assigned staff.

Working Conditions:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Work will primarily be performed in an office environment.
· Work will be performed both inside and outside on a regular basis, in most weather conditions.
· Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
· Evening, weekend, and holiday shifts are required as a normal part of this position.
· Occasional local day travel, Local travel to managed businesses.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk extended period. The employee occasionally is required to bend, climb, stoop, lift, carry, push, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move 15 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Economics, Finance, or related field.
- Proven ten (10) years’ experience in a managerial or leadership role, preferably in business development, operations, or general management.
· Valid AZ driver’s license, provide a 39-month satisfactory MVR report.
· Obtain a Tribal operator driving permit at the time of hire.
· A satisfactory result obtained through a test for illegal drugs.
· Acknowledge and agree to maintain a drug-free workplace.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in business administration, Economics, Finance, or related field.
- Experience with convenience stores, billboard displays, or related fields.
- Proven experience in strategic planning, business development, and market analysis.
- Strong financial acumen and ability to conduct detailed financial analyses.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to collaborate effectively across different teams.
- Demonstrated experience in leading and motivating cross-functional teams.
· Proficient in MS office and other relevant workplace tools.
- Knowledge and experience working with the Gila River Indian Community or other Native American Community preferred.

Pay: $136,134.00 - $176,645.00 per year
