The Adair County Public Library, located in Kirksville, MO, is currently accepting resumes and seeking highly qualified and motivated applicants for the position of Library Director. Under the direction of the Board of Trustees, the Library Director develops, supervises and coordinates the work of the Library and staff, performs managerial duties related to personnel, budget, collection development, building maintenance and library operations and services in conformity to the policies established by the Board of Trustees and Missouri State Statutes.
A Master's Degree in Library Science from an accredited college or university or 5 years progressively responsible library administration including 3 years of supervisory experience is preferred. Excellent communication skills and organizational skills are required. Skills include: Ability to administer the activities of a public library and supervise the work of others. Ability to develop short and long term strategic plans and objectives. Maintain knowledge of standard library principles and practices, concepts of freedom of speech, copyrights, collection development, patron confidentiality, censorship and other ethical issues. Proficiency with computers, popular library software, Internet, social media and digital communications. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, subordinates, associates, officials of other agencies, legislative officials and the general public.
Responsibilites include but not limited to: * Report directly to the Library Board of Trustees and carry out all policies and duties established in the policy manual. * Plan, implement and evaluate library services. *Handle complaints in accordance with policy.* Hire and terminate library staff. *Prepare the annual budget with library board approval.*Directs and controls the expenditures of library funds within the approved budget.*Purchases new equipment and furnishings.*Pursues and applies for grant money.*Prepares monthly and annual financial and statistical reports to Library Board, County and State officials.* Attends monthly Library Board of Trustees meetings.*Supervises maintenance of library building, equipment and furnishings.*Oversees library collection including purchasing, weeding, and inventory.*Cooperates with community groups and officials to implement library services.*Speaks before local groups and media.*Prepares questionaires and surveys to evaluate public responses to the library.*Keeps informed of current developments in the library field by attending webinars, workshops, professional meetings and reading current literature.*Maintains membership in professional organizations
Relocation to Adair County Missouri required within 12 months.
