The University Club is a prestigious private club, located in a historic landmark building in the heart of Manhattan- offering unparalleled services to members - from gracious dining, luxurious accommodations and a variety of social events, to extensive athletic facilities and the world’s largest and finest club library. We are seeking a skilled and experienced Tournant/ Line Cook to join our team. You will play a vital role in our kitchen operations, ensuring the preparation and delivery of high-quality meals to our valued members and guests. POSITION SUMMARY
The Tournant/line cook will have proven restaurant/catering venue cooking experience, excellent understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment and procedures. They are responsible for executing all recipes provided by the Club. In addition, consistency and efficiency along with proper cooking and cutting techniques are standard practice for all shifts. Culinary school training a plus, but not required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare ingredients for cooking, including chopping vegetables, cutting meat, and gathering spices
- Assist with meal preparation and cooking according to recipes and menu specifications
- Set up workstations with all necessary ingredients and cooking equipment
- Ensure food is cooked in a timely manner and meets quality standards
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen area
- Monitor food stock levels and notify the chef or supervisor of any shortages
- Adhere to all food safety and sanitation regulations
- Collaborate with the kitchen team to ensure smooth operations during service hours
- Assist with catering events as needed
REQUIREMENTS
- Proven experience as a Tournant/line Cook or relevant culinary position in high volume restaurant/catering venues.
- Knowledge of various cooking techniques and methods
- Proficient knife skills for food preparation
- Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities (must speak and read English for recipes)
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
- Culinary degree or relevant certification is a plus
