The Supervisor of School Safety supports and facilitates the Interboro School District educational process by providing safe and secure learning environment. The employee is the District’s chief security officer responsible, per ACT 44 of 2018 for the physical safety of faculty, students, and staff across six schools and district administration and sports facilities. Reporting directly to the Superintendent of Schools, the Supervisor of School Safety also performs supervisory and administrative tasks in developing, implementing, and managing security compliance programs. Additionally, the Coordinator serves as the primary point of contact for emergency communications with schools, community, and emergency responders in addition to designing plans to mitigate manmade and natural threats such as severe weather or fires.

In concert with the Superintendent, coordinates a comprehensive security/school safety program, including developing and implementing security plans for special events involving school facilities and the community.

Serves as the district Safe to Say coordinator and primary point of contact.

Leads the review and revision of the District's Emergency Operations Plans and provide recommendations

Assesses security, safety, and police protocols with District administration; meets weekly with the Superintendent to discuss, review and plan for safety and security-related matters

Directs/coordinates the periodic assessment/audit of school facilities and grounds to determine safety and security issues.

Facilitate safety and security meetings upon request of the Superintendent; present plans and outcomes to stakeholders as directed

Coordinates school safety compliance with federal, state and local regulations by studying existing and new requirements and overseeing and enforcing school-wide adherence to requirements.

Meet with safety and security consultants to determine short-term needs and develop long-term goals for continuous improvement of security protocol/ procedures.

Prepares professional development training and coordinates training and drills for administrators and employees in matters of safety and security

Receives all reports of criminal incidents occurring on school property and maintains statistics regarding this information.

Provides periodic reports to the Superintendent and the School Board on matters pertaining to school safety.

Cooperates with local law enforcement and relevant agencies during critical incident situations.

Works closely with first responders to ensure that the most appropriate resources are employed to maintain the safety of students and staff.

Works with community groups to identify potential threats to school safety and implements early intervention approaches

Periodically attend school night events to monitor security.
Required

Education

Associate degree in emergency management, paramedical studies, or related fields of study

Graduation from the Pennsylvania Police Academy or completion of Municipal Police Education and Training Program

Certification

Industry credentials from an accredited institution such as:

Emergency/ Crisis Management coursework/certification

PCCD/NASRO coursework/certification, or
-
Paramedical coursework/certification

Experience/Skillset
-
Five or more years of law enforcement or related experience, including management and leadership experience and training in de-escalation strategies, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Ability to collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders (governmental and non-governmental agencies) to manage a crisis; experiencing coordinating/supervising staff in response to variety of emergencies (e.g., weather, manmade, etc.)
