Millennium Consulting Associates* is seeking a full-time environmental field technician to to support our Northern California Building Sciences team. This position requires 1-2 years of direct experience. The Environmental Field Technician will perform duties under the supervision of project managers, project level engineers and industrial hygienists. This person will assist in the execution of a variety of industrial hygiene (eg. asbestos, lead, fungi, indoor air quality, chemical and physical hazards) and environmental engineering-related field investigation and monitoring tasks.
Update: We have an immediate need for lead-based monitoring work in San Francisco during nights and weekends. Preference will be given to those who hold a Lead Inspector/Risk Assessor license but willing to put the right candidate through training.
Candidates are expected to have long-term goals in Building Science/IH or Safety. This includes obtaining CSST, CAC or CSP certifications during the first year of employment.
Candidates must live within 40 miles of Pleasanton headquarters and are expected to work in office when not in field.
Most project work will be located in the San Francisco Bay Area although there may be occasional travel required outside the region. Candidates must have a reliable vehicle and will be reimbursed for mileage that exceeds 50 miles driven each day. In addition, some projects may require working swing or night shifts.
Preference will be given to candidates who have a CSST or CAC but they are not a requirement for the position.
This position requires current or previous experience in environmental consulting services. Please provide a cover letter which explains this specific experience (see Day-to-Day tasks below) and desire to work in this industry. Applications without cover letters will not be considered.
Day-to-day tasks will vary according to the scope and length of projects and generally include the following:
- Industrial hygiene evaluations - field inspections, sampling of air/water/soil/building materials for the presence of hazardous materials, employee monitoring and workplace surveillance, abatement and construction monitoring (75-80% of responsibilities)
- Environmental and geo-environmental evaluation of sites, including assisting with air/water/site permitting, hazardous materials management, assisting with design preparation including AUTOCAD site plan preparations (15-25% of responsibilities)
- Preparation of general/technical survey and remediation reports (5-10% of responsibilities)
Qualifications/Training/Education Required:
- Familiarity with construction environment
- Desire to work outdoors
- Ability to travel in California area with occasional overnight stays
- Ability to work evenings/nights as required
- Ability to read/interpret blueprints
- Ability to handle and operate test equipment and adhere to safety requirements
- Strong written skills (eg. report writing)
- Completed asbestos and lead training preferred
- 40 hour Hazwoper a plus
- OSHA 30 hour training a plus
- Min AA degree; BS preferred (eg. Environmental Science)
