Title: Food Service Director
Job Summary:
Under broad supervision, this position is responsible for the general management and coordination of food service operation, including employment of staff, purchasing, and marketing and maintenance security. The Director of Food Service establishes policy and procedures, carries out and enforces policies and programs, designs and changes programs, serves on policy making committees, establishes regulations, determines the budget and represents higher administration to other employees and outsiders. The Director of Food Service is engaged predominantly in executive and management functions.
Supervision:
This position directly supervises all cafeteria staff and is also indirectly responsible for lunchroom/recess supervisors. Specifically, the Director of Food Service will have the authority to effectively recommend to the Board the hiring, transfer, suspension, dismissal, recall, promotion, discharge, reward, or discipline of food service workers and lunchroom/recess supervisors.
Job Duties:
- Establishes, enforces, and implements overall policies, procedures, objectives, and methods.
- Develops and plans nutritious menus, standardizes recipes, preparation methods, and techniques.
- Prepares daily production records and nutritional analyses for all menus.
- Oversees food preparation and service by ensuring procedures are following and supervising employees
- Establishes daily workload and hours, and defines specific tasks for each employee.
- Establishes and implements cleaning schedule for food production areas and monitors daily.
- Assigns and directs employees in food production/preparation and cleaning tasks.
- Ensures all requirements of the National School Lunch Program are followed.
- Establishes and updates the local wellness policy, including establishing a committee to review the policy periodically.
- Establishes and determines training programs conducive to employee development.
- Develops and maintains a public relations program in relation to students, staff, parents, and visitors.
- Represents the Board and Administration to students, staff, parents, visitors, and vendors.
- Prepares budgets and directs subordinates to comply with and implement established budgets.
- Presents budgets, employee recommendation, policies/procedures, and other decisions to the Board.
- Maintains complete records for each food service unit, including full compliance with federal commodity records and claims for reimbursement.
- Establishes and maintains sanitation standards in full compliance with state and/or county regulations as appropriate.
- Establishes and maintains procedures for coordinating, purchasing, and preparing food for special activities and cater functions.
- Prepares bid specifications and makes recommendations for the purchase of food, supplies, and equipment, including the ordering and disbursement of federal commodities.
- Administers the food service program within the approved policies of the Board of Education.
- Purchases and maintains computer programs and food service network.
- Screens candidates and makes recommendations to the Director of Business Services.
- Evaluates the performance of all staff assigned under direct supervision.
- Completes all reports and special duties as assigned.
- Disciplines support staff under direct supervision.
Minimum Requirements:
Education: High School Diploma required
Bachelor Degree in Food Service Management or the equivalent preferred.
Experience: One-year food service management.
Contract Period: 9 months, approximately 175 days, 6 hours per day
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
