A Coffee By Design Shift Leader is passionate about specialty coffee and people – both team members and customers. Shift Leads are dependable, and trusted with the responsibility of opening and closing stores, setting up and breaking down registers, and leading other employees in the performance of their duties. At all times there is a Shift Leader, or person of higher responsibility, on premises. Working in close communication with Managers, Shift Leaders assist in directing staff to deliver excellent customer service and product quality. An effective Shift Leader takes on additional responsibilities unique to location and management structure of the store, as needed and directed by the Manager.
Serve
· Execute model work performance as a member of the team, establishing solid expectations for customer service and product quality.
· Open and close the store in an efficient and timely manner, assuring full preparedness to provide excellent service during all business hours.
· Assist in the deployment of staff to ensure effective teamwork and customer service.
· Implement directions and instructions from the manager in an efficient and effective manner.
· Instill and maintain respect for the Manager and management decisions and directives.
· Communicate with the Manager, other Shift Leaders and senior management, to assure proper operation of the store.
· Operate and maintain the store in accordance with the Department of Health.
· Take on additional routine responsibilities as directed by store Manager.
· Demonstrate honesty, integrity, commitment and understanding.
Manage
· Demonstrate ownership of the store by ensuring cleanliness, organization and attractiveness of the store’s interior and exterior.
· Provide respectful direction to the staff on shift to maintain the appropriate operations of the store.
· Assist in the supervision of in-store responsibilities, ensuring they are completed correctly and on time.
Develop
· Lead excellent customer service through in-the-moment coaching and role modeling.
· Continuously review the store environment to identify tasks to be completed and take charge to complete them without being directed to.
· Maintain a positive learning environment by providing clear, specific, timely and respectful coaching and feedback to staff and ensure timely follow-up with the Manager on all personnel issues.
· Maintain a positive, healthy and safe working environment.
Supervision
· Retail coffeehouse team members perform daily activities under the general direction of a Retail Manager and/or Shift Lead on duty. Some duties require working directly with another team member(s), others independently.
Physical Requirements
· Retail coffeehouse team members should be able to stand and walk for long periods of time and should be physically capable to lift, push and pull up to 40 pounds. There is occasional use of ladders, stairs and ramps. All team members must reach, turn and perform precision work around the bar area.

Schedule & Reliable Transportation
· Shift Leaders are expected to be at their coffeehouse when scheduled as well as to perform other duties to ensure smooth and sustainable operations. Shift Leaders are part of the larger Coffee By Design community and as such, attend additional trainings and meetings which include monthly manager meetings, educational workshops on coffee, leadership and sustainable practices (finance, environmental, diversity and inclusion to name a few). In order to be an active participant in these opportunities, we do require staff have reliable transportation (car, metro, bike, carpool) to attend. Staff should notify the office in advance if they need assistance to attend.

As a result, we require post offer/pre-employment, proof of full COVID19 vaccination and booster with appropriate exceptions for documented medical and religious reasons. We follow current Covid-19 guidelines should a team member test positive for the virus.
Unless City or State leaders implement updated guidelines, mask wearing is at the discretion of individual team members and our customers.

Pay: $15.75 - $16.00 per hour
