Job Title: Registered Nurse - Apheresis
Location: Rochester, NY
Salary: $3200/week
Shift pattern: 40hours/week (4x10s) Day shift
Required: NY License, 2 Year Experience, BLS
Duties/Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive assessments of patients prior to apheresis procedures.
- Evaluate patients' medical histories, current conditions, and lab results to determine eligibility for apheresis.
- Monitor patients during and after procedures for any adverse reactions or complications.
- Prepare and operate apheresis equipment according to established protocols.
- Perform various apheresis procedures, including but not limited to, plateletpheresis, plasmapheresis, leukapheresis, and red cell exchanges.
- Ensure accurate and timely collection of blood components or therapeutic removal of plasma.
- Educate patients and their families about apheresis procedures, potential risks, and post-procedure care.
- Provide emotional support and address any concerns or questions patients may have.
- Ensure patients are comfortable and informed throughout the treatment process.
- Work closely with physicians to develop and implement patient care plans.
- Communicate effectively with other healthcare team members, including laboratory staff and transfusion services.
- Document patient care activities, including assessments, procedures, and patient responses, accurately in medical records.
- Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and protocols related to apheresis and patient care.
- Follow infection control and safety guidelines to maintain a sterile environment and prevent cross-contamination.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of best practices in apheresis care.
- Stay current with advancements in apheresis techniques and technologies.
- Attend continuing education sessions and professional development activities.
- Maintain required certifications and licenses in accordance with regulatory standards.
Required
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
- Certification in Apheresis Nursing (APHN) preferred or willingness to obtain certification.
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in hematology, oncology, or critical care settings.
- Experience with apheresis procedures and equipment highly desirable.
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting apheresis machines and related equipment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
- Compassionate and patient-centered approach to care.
