Responsibilities:
- Review and analyze medical records and patient information to ensure accurate billing
- Assign appropriate medical codes using ICD-10 and/or ICD-9 coding systems
- Process medical claims for reimbursement from insurance companies
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims and resolve any billing discrepancies
- Communicate with patients, insurance companies, and healthcare providers regarding billing inquiries or disputes
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information and adhere to HIPAA regulations
- Stay updated on changes in medical coding guidelines and regulations
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing or related field
- Proficient in medical terminology and understanding of medical procedures and diagnoses
- Knowledge of coding systems such as ICD-10 and/or ICD-9
- Familiarity with medical billing software systems
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and documentation
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
