Delegating Registered Nurse Job Description
Developmental disabilities nurses specialize in providing nursing supports to people who have developmental and mental disabilities. They work with children and/or adults who suffer from different types of disabilities, such as autism, Down Syndrome, and cerebral palsy. Tasks include helping patients eat and teaching movement and language skills. Development disability nurses are one of a number of professionals who are involved with providing services to their clients, and they must coordinate with other professionals to ensure patients are receiving appropriate care.
In their role as a developmental disability nurse, they are responsible for evaluating participants and monitoring their health. They will give advice about managing a participant's weight by monitoring their diet or their exercise routine. Developmental disability nurses will help their clients find other types of services that they need and/or teach the families of their participants about their health and how to manage specific medical issues.
Job Responsibilities:
- Conduct assessments, implement health care plans, and respond to changes of condition
- Communicate with the physician and external medical centers to ensure consistency of essential medical information
- Provide technical assistance, medical oversight, and training of staff to ensure the effective implementation of all related services
- Provide input regarding health care services to be included in each individual’s service plan
- Monitor and ensure physicians orders are documented and carried out as prescribed
- Travel between multiple locations to provide support and be accessible to staff at all locations
Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited RN program
- Completed Maryland DDA Delegating Nurse Training
- One year of experience working with the population we serve
- Current state RN License
- Current driver's license, car registration, and auto insurance
- Current CPR/First Aid certification
- Excellent assessment skills with the ability to exercise critical thinking in the clinical environment.
- Effective communication skills – ability to communicate clearly with team members, medical professionals, those we serve, and their families

Pay: $75.00 - $125.00 per hour
