Job Type: Independent Contractor/1099 Position
Pay: $45-47/hr, estimated 10-12 hours per week
Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings from 5:00pm-8:30pm
Job Function:
The Assistant IT Instructor will play a vital role in helping youth and adult students build their IT skills in pursuit of higher education and employment opportunities. Under the supervision of the IT Instructor/Mentor and Workforce Development Coordinator, teach and refine curriculum created by our IT Instructor/Mentor to help students learn more about potential career pathways in IT, complete three introductory certificates, and prepare to enter the Google IT Support Certificate Program course (our Advanced class) in 1-2 terms.
The instructor will lead in-person lab instruction on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 5:00pm-8:30pm. Provide quality technical education in a welcoming and collaborative environment, serving clients from educationally disadvantaged backgrounds, and seeing both staff and students grow to reach their fullest potential.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as an assistant instructor, mentor, and troubleshooting assistance for Foundations of IT Careers (Intro to IT) cohort over the course of ten weeks per term/cohort
- Follow outline for week, including required modules/lessons to cover and share with students
- Teach and assist IT Instructor with courses on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings from 5:00pm-8:30pm, outlining the objectives for the week, highlighting areas that may be problematic for students, and incorporating in employment-related skills (job-hunting, creating a resume, etc.)
- Meet with supervisor for 30 minutes weekly to discuss any issues and course/student progress
- Hold open office hours for students in need as schedule permits
- Keep close watch on student progress and check in on students weekly and as needed
- Adhere to Trellus mission and personnel policies.
Qualifications: (Skills, Knowledge, and abilities)
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in technology and/or education
- One year coaching/facilitation and/or training experience in appropriate discipline preferred.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace products and/or familiarity with Google Certificate Programs
- Comfort working independently and prioritizing a variety of tasks
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with diverse group of students and staff
- Work with tenacity, flexibility, empathy, energy, and careful attention to details
- Act with the highest ethical standards to help our clients in the community with comfort and dignity.
