Summary
The Blown Film Extrusion Technical Manager is primarily responsible is to serve as the point of contact for Balcan USA’s technical and subject matter expert to the blown film extrusion department. Coordinate with technical counterparts at Balcan Innovations plants and serve as centralized technical resource for business transfers, new technology implementation, and new product introduction. Train and develop Balcan USA’s technical competencies and educate on blown film extrusion technologies to help promote Balcan’s technical expertise and market knowledge. The Extrusion Technical Manager is essential to energizing and challenging the team as we grow the business.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Serve as technical expert for blown film extrusion process and products as well as new technologies
- Assist with production management in planning of and implementing the necessary technical changes required to sustain adequate production line capacity
- Mentor and provide guidance to extrusion team members
- Lead successful startup and implementation of new or modified equipment
- Initiate and conduct studies or projects for new processes, process changes, and/or improvements to improve safety, improve product quality, increase production efficiency and decrease standard cost
- Independently design and conduct statistically valid, scientifically sound feasibilities studies and process improvement projects and prepare timely written updates and reports of these activities
- Perform and assist with extrusion process validations
- Evaluate and recommend equipment to implement new projects, and specify any equipment necessary for capital improvements
- Interface with customers and suppliers on project matters, process capability studies, product quality issues, etc.
- Support quoting activities within material selection and process development
- Provide training to manufacturing personnel for new processes and products
- Support trials being conducted in extrusion
- Support the extrusion team members in preparing resin blend/recipes and product QC testing
Supervisory Responsibilities

Education and /or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Polymer Science, or other relevant degree preferred
- 5-6 years of direct blown film extrusion specialty experience required in lieu of degree, 3-5 years of experience with degree
- 5-6 years experience in related field within manufacturing setting, 3-5 years of experience with degree
- Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate projects and deliver results.
- Experience supporting and troubleshooting plastic extrusion production lines
- Experience with Film, Web Handling, and Extrusion Laminating, preferred
- Must have understanding of plastic materials such as HDPE, LDPE, LLDPE, AND PP.
- Experience with extrusion machine troubleshooting and repairs
- Experience in resin handling and inventory control of plastics raw materials, additives and color master batches
- Experience supporting a 24/7 manufacturing facility
- Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) experience required
- Fluency in English (read & write)
- Analytical skills
- Lean Manufacturing training and/or experience a plus.
- Ability to accurately interpret blueprints and customer specifications.
- Ability to establish a positive relationship with employees at all levels
- Dynamic, quickly respond to ever changing environment
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, production dockets, customer orders. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Pay: $89,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
