This position is responsible for the management of shop fabrication, fabrication processing, shop tools, shop supplies and shop inventory. This position is also responsible for getting all assigned fabrication projects done on time and within budget, and with the highest quality possible. Management and oversight of all safety practices is a key component of this position. This position is also responsible for ensuring a safe working environment to all shop employees and creating/implementing strong efficiency guidelines.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Must have at least 10 years of managing a fabrication shop. Architectural and industrial specialty metal shop experience is required.
Must know the fabrication process from beginning to end to include architectural metal finishing as well as welding both MIG and TIG.
Responsible for work assignments of supervised personnel.
Coordinate labor for the best use of manpower talents and capabilities.
Prepare and submit time sheets for supervised personnel.
Track job progress, in a timely manner, reviewing labor and material costs, comparing actual to estimate.
Responsible for bringing job(s) within estimate.
Manage manpower needs, increasing or decreasing manpower to efficiently meet schedule requirements.
Assure fabrication orders are complete and on schedule.
Ensure quality of workmanship and product.
Coordinate with fabrication processing and delivery.
Gather productivity information and data as required.
Keep current all applicable paperwork (and/or computer entry), disburse or appropriately file in timely manner.
Conduct physical inventory of materials as required.
Control inventory losses.
Assure proper repair and maintenance of shop tools and equipment.
Meet or exceed established goals.
Promote safety and provide a safe working environment for employees.
Attend manpower/scheduling/turnover meetings and provide input.
Maintain and oversee shop supplies.
Research and provide input on fabrication savings and/or losses.
Oversee fabrication processing.
Provide regular feedback to Estimating on shop production factors and shop materials costs.
Review fabrication requirements with the Estimator and other Project Team managers.
Work closely with the Project Team, providing input to assure fabrication orders are completed on time and within budget.
Manage shop personnel to obtain maximum efficiency, productivity and cost savings.
Assure shop inventories are kept at minimum acceptable levels.
Provide Fab Sale pricing and support as required.
Monitor, record and track shop production factors.
Prepare production report (as required).
Assure shop is kept clean, organized and well maintained, utilizing available space in the most efficient manner.
Regularly evaluate shop layout, looking for ways to improve efficiency and flow.
Remain current on the latest technological advancements/developments in shop equipment, available materials and related production processes.
Promote ongoing training/education of supervised personnel through meetings and formal education.
Must exhibit excellent communication skills in the shop and office on a daily basis and promote a team mentality between both.
