Located in Kent Washington, Protective Coatings Inc. is a leading provider of full service finishing for the aerospace, electronics and medical industries in both commercial and defense applications. Services include but are not limited to non-destructive testing such as fluorescent penetrant and magnetic particle inspection and a wide variety of surface enhancement processes such as shot peening and abrasive blasting, passivation, cadmium and nickel zinc plating, chromic, sulfuric and boric sulfuric acid anodizing and the application of chromate conversion coating on ferrous and non-ferrous alloys. Organic coating includes the application and testing of multiple resin systems such as epoxies, phenolics, polyurethanes, polyesters, elastomerics, intumescents, lacquers, alkyds, acrylics, dry-film lubricants, powder coatings and Teflon. Founded in 1976, Protective Coatings Inc. was later acquired by Precision Castparts in 2012, and became part of the Aerostructures Division. As a defense contractor Protective Coatings Inc. is registered with the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls as a subsidiary of Precision Castparts Corp and is fully compliant with all relevant facets of the International Traffic in Arms Regulations and the Export Administration Regulations.
Position Summary:
Candidates for a Level 1 Laboratory Technician, under direct supervision, will learn tasks specific to the monitoring and control of processing solutions and chemicals used in this organization’s facility. Level 1 Laboratory Technicians will be expected to collect daily samples for testing, perform process and solution control testing, and formulate buffer solutions and reagents. They will become familiar with the operation and standardization of laboratory equipment, as well as maintaining a clean, sanitized and organized laboratory setting. Level 1 Laboratory Technicians will also be expected to perform recordkeeping of tests and consistent monitoring of production solutions and chemicals on a regular basis. Candidates must be self-disciplined and self-motivated individuals with strong accountability (attention to details) skills. As a condition of assignment, Level 1 Laboratory Technicians may be expected to access information and product controlled under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations and/or Export Administration Regulations. As such these candidates may be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship, Legal Permanent Residence or protected status as a Non-Citizen National of the U.S.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Maintaining regular and punctual attendance according to shift-times or a pre-arranged work schedule.
- Follow all policies, procedures, and work instructions.
- Wear and maintain proper personal equipment (PPE).
- Document and maintain laboratory records using in-house LIMS.
- Perform solution chemical analysis using methods such as titration or spectroscopy.
- Perform process control testing such as corrosion resistance, coating weight or hydration levels.
- Perform trend analysis for chemical processing solutions.
- Formulate buffer solutions and reagents when needed.
- Operate and standardize laboratory equipment.
- When necessary, collect samples of chemical processing solutions.
- Maintain a clean and sterile work area, equipment, and lab ware.
- Maintain laboratory chemical inventory
- Operator works with hazardous chemicals, such as acids, bases inorganic compounds and organic solvents, using appropriate PPE.
Required Skills:

- Ability to perform basic math (add, subtract, multiply, & divide). Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and interpret bar graphs. Knowledge of the metric system units (length, area, volume, capacity, mass, and weight) and U.S. equivalents. Ability to apply concept of basic algebra and geometry.
- Knowledge of internal laboratory procedures and protocols.
Required Experience:
- Previous lab sampling experience preferred
Level of Education:
- High School Diploma or GED
- College degree (minimum 2 year) or documented on-the-job training is preferred
Shift:
- Monday through Friday from 4am to 12:30pm

For informational purposes only, the range of pay for this role is $24 to $36 US Dollar (USD) Hourly based on a variety of factors. For informational purposes only, this role is eligible to participate in the Company’s Quarterly Cash Bonus Plan, paid out at the quarterly bonus factor of 1X the Company’s bonus multiple, based on the Company’s performance in the applicable quarter. Employees will receive 120 hours paid time off every year. Employees will also receive 10 paid holidays. This position requires use of information or access to production processes subject to national security controls under U.S. export control laws and regulations (including, but not limited to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR)). To be qualified to work in this facility, a successful applicant must be a U.S. Person, as defined in those regulations, and able to supply evidence of that qualification prior to starting work or be authorized to receive controlled information under a specific license or permission from the relevant government agency. The U.S. export control regulations define a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), and certain categories of Asylees and Refugees.
