The Lorge School is a non-public school serving students with learning and emotional disabilities, age 5 to 21. The 1:1 Student Aide assists the student throughout the day in their daily tasks in the classroom, in special activities and during lunch. You are there when the student enters the building and leaves at dismissal. You participate in the student's ability to be successful each day. Therefore, you must have a high level of commitment and dedication to your student and to the education process.
Education/Experience:
Associate's degree and experience working with school age children
Job Responsibilities include:
Understand the goals and objectives outlined in the assigned student's Individualized Education Plan and Behavior Intervention Plan. Ensure goals are being met.
Demonstrate an understanding of the diagnosis of the assigned student and associated challenges.
Writing anecdotal information, as required, and presenting to the classroom teacher.
Working collaboratively with teaching, clinical and behavioral staff.
Guiding and assisting the student with class routines and in transitioning from one activity to another.
Maintain student supervision at all times, including clinical sessions, classroom transition, transportation periods and field trips.
Reinforcing positive behavior through the use of positive behavior support.
Attend to hygiene needs of the student.
Skills and Abilities include:
Adaptive ability to work with children with learning, emotional and behavioral difficulties.
Must be patient and compassionate.
Must be adept at effective communication: oral, written, interpersonal and organizational skills.
Time and Attendance:
Must make a commitment to be at work each day and be on time.
Physical Requirements include:
Ability to diffuse situations through use of strategies taught in behavioral training.
Ability to climb up to five flights of stairs multiple times each day.
Ability to attend field trips which require walking for long periods of time and accessing public transportation.

Pay: $18.00 per hour
