Summary: This position participates in customer service, order fulfillment, inventory management, store maintenance, and food safety in our local foods focused specialty grocery store and cafe. The Production/Retail Assistant works at the direction of a Retail Specialist, Retail Lead, and/or Manager to assist customers, maintain our retail space and produce foods in our Preservation Kitchen.
- Assist in the production of hot sauce, jam, pickles, relishes, spice blends and fermented foods. Which entails making delicious foods in our small batch kitchen. It is a combination of culinary arts and standardized and process driven production of foods. Responsibility ranges from kitchen readiness for production days, involvement in actual production of goods, direct customer service, and fulfillment of orders.
- Opens food processing shifts according to standard operating procedures.
- Closes food processing shifts according to standard operating procedures
- Verifies quality of finished goods using standard operating procedures, logs and checklists.
- Maintains food storage areas, coolers and storage of finished goods, raw goods and supplies.
- Verifies accuracy of finished goods. Labels and coordinates or conducts labeling of finished goods.
- Participates in food processing shifts including production and record keeping.
- Completes preparation of ingredients including washing, sorting, selecting, cutting, chopping and weighing
- Cleans cookware and dishware
- Cleans kitchen surfaces, appliances, floors, and walls
- Follows proper food safety and handling procedures
- Ensures that kitchen is clean, well maintained and organized
- Provides excellent customer service to customers in our store and cafe
- Takes orders, makes sales, and provides change using the POS system on our cash registers
- Prepares cafe drinks and operates espresso and coffee machines
- Ensures the accuracy of food and drink orders
- Brings ordered food and drink to customers in dining room
- Packages grocery and cafe items for customers
- Weighs, assembles, and stocks food service items
- Stocks inventory on store shelves using FIFO (first in first out)
- Follows and completes tasks on daily prep list
- Answers the phone and takes messages
- Waters and maintains plant department
- Verifies refrigerated equipment temperatures using checklist
- Sanitizes surfaces and equipment using checklist
- Cleans retail surfaces, equipment, floors, walls, and restrooms
- Assists in post production work for items made in our small batch, handcrafted, food processing facility such as labeling, cleaning, and stocking jars.

Salary Range:
$15-$16 per hour (with at least six months work experience)
Experience Needed:
Because of the unique nature of this position, the level of experience required varies based on the individual. Essential skills described above may make this position appropriate for someone with a single year of work experience or an individual with many years of experience. Interest in customer service, small scale food processing, and the success of our business is important.
Job Type: FULL TIME: 32-40 hours per week. Most shifts occur between 9am and 6pm. Must be available at least two days per week.
