Job Description: Montessori Assistant

The main role of the Montessori assistant to the teacher is to protect the lessons the teacher is giving individual children or small groups by attending to the needs of the other children and the environment. They shall:
· Assist children by answering questions, directing them toward work, and overseeing their interactions in the classroom.
· Model polite, respectful behavior.
· Responsible for the safety and well-being of all children at all times.
· Ensure children are accounted for at all times.
· Supervise outdoor and indoor recess.
· Maintain the highest professional standards in all areas related to the school. These include an attitude toward the child characterized by respect, sensitivity, and optimism, and keeping all personal information about the children, families, school matters, and staff strictly confidential.
· Prepare and maintain an ideal Montessori environment including daily cleaning and upkeep of the school as a whole.
· Participate in all-school meetings, events, and functions unless excused by the Head of School.
· Arrange for substitutes on days off.
· Other duties as needed.
Skills and Attributes Needed
· Highly alert to the location of every child at all times.
· Able to identify dangerous situations before they occur and stop them.
· Patient, loving and kind to all of the children.
· The ability to talk to parents in a professional manner.
· Work as a member of the team.
· Prompt and dependable!!!
· Comfortable working on the floor, squatting, bending, and walking.
· A love for the outdoors - children spend significant time outdoors daily unless the weather is dangerously inclement.
Hours/Days: 7:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. All scheduled school days, a portion of the summer program, and some conference care days. The school year workday will generally function as follows:
7:30 a.m. Arrival and prepare for the day.
7:45 a.m. - 8:15 a.m. Early Bird Care
8:15 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Primary assistant duties. Assist in the classroom.
11:00 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. Supervise and engage in outdoor play with the children.
11:45 a.m. – 12:00 a.m. Transition children into lunch
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $17.00 - $23.00 per hour
Expected hours: 22.5 per week
