Key Responsibilities:
The attending anesthesiologist administers care alone or supervises physicians-in-training (residents), certified registered nurse anesthetists and certified anesthesiologist assistants. When working alone, he/she examines the patient before and after anesthesia, writes pre and post anesthesia orders, confirms that the patient is ready for anesthesia before induction, manages the anesthetic period, and follows patient as long as is appropriate in the post anesthesia period.
The position is full-time and will be assigned clinical duties in any of the University of Colorado School of Medicine affiliated hospitals to include University of Colorado Hospital affiliates.
The candidate must have a strong working and theoretical knowledge of Anesthesiology and Peri-operative Medicine as well as experience in teaching Anesthesiology.
As an attending anesthesiologist, the candidate may be required to perform these services in the operating room, in the labor and delivery area, in radiology, and in the outpatient procedure center. Except in specific emergency situations, the administration of anesthesia is limited to areas where anesthesia can be given safely. One or more attendings will be available at all times to provide these services.
As faculty members of the School of Medicine, candidates are also expected to contribute to the teaching needs of the Department and the School. This may include, but is not limited to, preparing and delivering lectures, serving as a preceptor, and providing one-on-one instruction. Attending anesthesiologists, as faculty members, are also expected to contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the specialty by way of clinical or laboratory research.
