Gastroenterology Nurse Practitioner
The nurse practitioner (NP) will be responsible for collaboration with the GI physicians of Olympia Multi-specialty Clinic. The NP will provide direct patient care for follow-up patient visits as well as seeing new patients as your confidence grows. Areas of focus include Hepatitis C, fatty liver, colon cancer screening and, other common GI indications. The position also includes, but will not be limited to, responding to phone calls, receiving patients during clinic hours, providing patient education, ordering x-rays and labs, and scheduling procedures. This position requires a team player with the ability to work and communicate effectively with patients, physicians, nurses, hospital staff and OMC administrative staff.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Provide direct patient care as delegated by physician.
2. Provides acute and chronic patient care including taking patient histories, perform physical examinations, order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe medications, and develop treatment plans.
3. Triages patient calls and evaluate patient problems.
4. Documents patient information and care provided in patient record.
5. Educates patients and families as appropriate. Provides continuity of care.
6. Collaborate, refer, and consult with department physicians and other members of the healthcare team to deliver effective, efficient, safe and, high quality care.
7. Contribute to organizational and departmental continuous performance and quality improvement projects.
EDUCATION: Graduate Degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
EXPERIENCE: A minimum of three years previous experience required. Previous experience with Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology highly desired.
REQUIREMENTS: Current and valid WA state license. The NP is responsible for maintaining their WA State Licensure as well as DEA controlled substance licensure. BLS and/or ACLS certification required.
KNOWLEDGE:
1. Knowledge of acute and chronic care protocols, administration of medications, delivering physical care following the treatment plan.
2. Knowledge of how to assess patient health.
3. Knowledge of Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology practices.
4. Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records systems and Practice Management systems.
