The Quality Assurance Specialist is an experienced member of a team that manages various processes to ensure that established quality and food safety standards at Boston Salads are met, and undertakes various duties and projects as determined by the Food Safety Quality Assurance (FSQA) Manager. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
· Active member of the HACCP team. Participate in the review of HACCP plan and other SOP documentation, CCP monitoring and pre-requisite program records
· Monitor and enforce GMP’s and compliance with SOP’s at periodic intervals during the day; reports deficiencies to production supervisor and/ or management when found
· Contact person for USDA inspectors; address inspectors’ concerns and their info requests
· Interface with sanitation chemical services; track trends and corresponding reports
· Continuously monitor incoming ingredients for accuracy against the updated specifications on file. Ensure consistency of labeling across product lines; promptly notify Purchasing and QA departments of any changes noted, and place affected commodities on hold as necessary
· Develop finished products ingredient documentation and nutritional calculations using Food Label Maker software
· Enter final label information (i.e. ingredient, allergen, pack size, nutritionals) into labeling databases (Markem & EasyLabel).
· Create new and maintain production recipe document files and edit existing ones per R&D notifications
· Assist QA Manager with yearly and ongoing employee food safety training
· Oversee metal detector procedures; learn new products in equipment and verify proper detection thresholds are being implemented
· Verify proper traceability and GMP practices at the off-site Distribution location
· Maintain the CAPA master file and provide well-written responses to corrective action requests
· Conduct monthly facility inspections and identify possible maintenance concerns; issue work orders to maintenance department as needed and track orders on the facilities CAPA file
Requirements
- 2-3 years food industry work experience in a food regulatory setting.
- Degree in Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry or Food Science preferable, but not required.
- Experience working within a SQF, USDA and FDA HACCP certified food manufacturing environment; familiarity with FSMA and PCQI training highly desirable
- HACCP certification and history of working-interacting with federal inspectors.
- Able to write concise reports with clarity
- Experienced with label regulations and finished product label development
- Computer skills to include Microsoft Office applications, with emphasis in label database and spreadsheet software
- Team player; willingness to contribute at a high level and help others at all levels
- Highly effective interpersonal skills; communicates with all levels in a respectful manner
- Demonstrated administrative skills; extremely high detail orientation; good proofer; analytical; good with data; keeps excellent files
- Ability to remain strategic while rolling up the sleeves. Proactive with meeting deadlines
