Quality Staffing, Inc., also doing business as Goddard Mason Executive Search, a leading full-service employment agency matching qualified talent with some of the area's top companies, is looking for an experienced Environmental Scientist in Aquatics working on-site with the Tennessee Department of Health located in Nashville, TN. This is a 1st shift position working from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday for a total of 37.5 hours per week. The pay rate for this position is $39.00 per hour.
Duties and Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

Enter macroinvertebrate data into an access database; includes saving the document in the proper format for further work by the manager.

After training, properly clean a semi-quantitative macroinvertebrate sample for preparation to sort/pick macroinvertebrates from the debris that was collected.

After training, properly complete the headings and internal labels for all samples that are being processed for further analysis.

After training, sort/pick macroinvertebrates from the previously cleaned semi-quantitative samples for further analysis.

Permanently mount specific organisms for further identification.

Organize the diatom photo library for clients; includes naming the photos and storing them in one central location.

Take photos of the macroinvertebrate specimens in the reference collection for clients.

Gather specimens in the SEMN (Southeastern Monitoring Network) project for sending for verification; includes typing information into an excel spreadsheet, packaging them for shipment, and putting them back in the collection for storage.

Dispose of old samples and collect waste alcohol for disposal.

Review and “second check” information that has been entered into the LIMS (laboratory information management system).

Assist with fish filleting (prepping area, cleaning after, scaling fish); review and “second check” information on chain of custody forms after processing.
Education and Minimum Qualifications Required:
-
Have successfully completed a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical
Laboratory Technician program.
OR -
Have graduated from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's
degree in life sciences (e.g., biology, microbiology, or biochemistry),
Medical Laboratory Science, pre-medicine, or other acceptable science.
OR -
Meet CLIA Testing Personnel Qualification Category set forth in federal
CMS regulations 42 CFR, 493.1489.
- MUST be able to email a copy of college degree and transcripts.
