Position Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Engineer to lead our engineering and maintenance team at the Radisson Hotel in Cedar Rapids. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in hotel engineering and facilities management, with a proactive approach to maintaining and improving our property's infrastructure and systems. As the Chief Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient operation, safety, and upkeep of the hotel's physical assets and systems, from HVAC and plumbing to electrical and structural maintenance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facility Management:
- Oversee the daily operations of the engineering department, including preventive maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting of all mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems.
- Ensure the hotel’s infrastructure and equipment are maintained to the highest standards of safety and functionality.
- Team Leadership:
- Lead, train, and manage the engineering and maintenance team, fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Develop and implement training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of the team.
- Preventive Maintenance:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive preventive maintenance program for all building systems and equipment to minimize downtime and extend the lifespan of assets.
- Regularly inspect the property to identify maintenance needs and potential safety hazards.
- Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations regarding safety, building codes, and environmental standards.
- Maintain up-to-date records of safety inspections, certifications, and maintenance activities.
- Budget Management:
- Manage the engineering department's budget, including forecasting and controlling expenses related to maintenance, repairs, and capital improvements.
- Source and negotiate contracts with vendors and service providers to obtain the best value for the hotel.
- Crisis Management:
- Develop and implement emergency response plans for situations such as power outages, equipment failures, and natural disasters.
- Act as the primary point of contact during engineering-related emergencies and ensure prompt resolution.
- Energy Management:
- Identify and implement energy conservation measures to reduce the hotel's environmental footprint and operational costs.
- Monitor and analyze energy usage and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency.
- Project Management:
- Oversee capital improvement projects, from planning and budgeting to execution and completion, ensuring minimal disruption to hotel operations.
- Coordinate with external contractors and vendors to ensure timely and quality delivery of projects.
- Guest Experience:
- Respond promptly to guest requests and concerns related to the physical condition of the hotel, ensuring a high level of guest satisfaction.
- Maintain a visible presence in the hotel to engage with guests and staff and to address any engineering issues directly.
Qualifications:
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in hotel engineering or facilities management, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Proven experience in managing building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and life safety systems.
- Skills:
- Strong technical knowledge of building maintenance and engineering principles.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and project management skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues efficiently.
- Strong understanding of safety regulations and compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in using maintenance management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field is preferred.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Engineering Operations Executive, HVAC certification) are highly desirable.
