What we are looking for
We are currently seeking a Property Accounting Manager who will play a crucial role in overseeing the financial health of Roots. A Property Accounting Manager oversees the day-to-day operations of the accounting team for their portfolio and ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial data. Strong knowledge of GAAP is required along with solid communication, technology, organizational and analytical abilities. Responsibilities involve full cycle month end close, reconciliations, and establishing and maintaining internal controls. Previous supervisory experience required.
Responsibilities:
- Manage a property accounting team who are responsible for full cycle month end close for an assigned portfolio of manufactured home communities.
- Review of monthly financial statement packages, including relevant account reconciliations.
- Oversees accounting staff, including providing training and conducting performance evaluations.
- Maintain effective internal controls and help establish best-in-class processes for accounting.
- Oversee the production of periodic financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or financial reporting standards.
- Assists in external audits, including coordination with outside auditors for procedures and providing needed information as requested.
- Document policies and procedures and evaluation of processes for continuous improvement.
- Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.
Education / Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or related field
- 5+ years of relevant experience
- 3+ years leadership, supervisory or managerial experience
- Real estate, investment accounting, or REIT experience preferred
- CPA or CPA candidate preferred
Qualifications:
- Strong leadership skills, including ability to communicate effectively, prioritize multiple workflows, and train and develop staff
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to deliver results in a deadline driven environment
- Strong understanding of accounting and ability to reconcile data to the bank statement and relevant supporting files
- Highly motivated individual that can learn new systems and processes
- Strong analytical, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to assess issues, implement solutions, and influence change at various levels of staff and management
- Ability to work with minimum supervision
- Strong sense of ownership in work product and other areas of responsibility
- Highly proficient with Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel and SharePoint)
