We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Bankruptcy & Creditor’s Rights Paralegal to support our legal team with a focus on liens, mortgages, garnishments and subpoenas. This role requires a deep understanding of bankruptcy proceedings, lien enforcement, mortgage law, and garnishment processes. The ideal candidate will assist in managing complex bankruptcy cases and provide crucial support in managing the related financial and legal documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist attorneys in the preparation and filing of bankruptcy petitions, with a specific focus on issues related to liens, mortgages, and garnishments.
- Manage and respond to motions regarding liens, foreclosure proceedings, and garnishment orders within the context of bankruptcy cases.
- Coordinate with clients, creditors, court personnel, and other stakeholders to gather and organize relevant case documentation.
- Maintain and update databases related to case tracking and client information specific to bankruptcies involving secured assets.
- Prepare legal documents including debtor notices, creditor correspondence, and court submissions.
- Ensure compliance with all legal standards and regulations associated with bankruptcy and secured transactions.
- Provide regular updates to attorneys regarding case status, deadlines, and compliance requirements.
- Assist in the preparation of evidence and supporting documents for court hearings and trustee meetings.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree or higher in Paralegal Studies or a related field; a certificate from an ABA-approved paralegal certification program is preferred.
- Minimum of 5-8 years’ experience in a bankruptcy paralegal role, specifically handling cases involving liens, mortgages, and garnishments.
- Extensive knowledge of bankruptcy procedures and creditor rights.
- Proficient in legal research tools such as Westlaw or LexisNexis and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple cases simultaneously.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization and external contacts.
