POSITION SUMMARY:
· Is responsible for processing specimens, test performance and reporting test results.
· Performs only those tests authorized by the laboratory director and requiring a degree of skill commensurate with the individual’s education, training or experience and technical abilities.
· Follows the laboratory’s standard operating procedures for handling and processing specimens, test analyses, reporting test results and maintaining records of patient test results.
· Maintains records that demonstrate that Proficiency Testing samples are tested in the same manner as those of patient samples.
· Adheres to the laboratory’s Quality Control policies, including the documentation of all Quality Control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and the performance of instrument maintenance.
· Follows the laboratory’s established corrective action policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory’s established acceptable levels of performance.
· Is capable of identifying problems that a may adversely affect test performance or the reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the technical supervisor, laboratory director or clinical consultant.
· Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications.
· Performs all other duties as assigned by the technical supervisor.
· Coordinates and manages laboratory activities to meet contract commitment, turn-around schedules and cost-containment/profit demands.
· Oversees Proficiency Testing in all areas of the lab to comply with CLIA and accrediting regulations.
· Understands principles and competently performs a variety of techniques.
· Evaluates technology and laboratory testing methods to determine suitability for diagnostic testing.
· Develops and validates testing procedures to ensure accuracy, precision and compliance with good laboratory practice.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Candidates must possess certification as MT (ASCP) or equivalent or have a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical or Biological Science.
· Familiarity with laboratory accreditation and regulatory requirements.

Experience required or preferred:
PREFERRED:General one year clinical laboratory experience or equivalent clinical lab training, 60 Hours of College Sciences as required by CLIA.
