Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 333-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus including at a network of Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.
Job Role Summary
The Medical Transporter III EMT is responsible for all duties associate with a Medical Transporter I & II as well as transportation to designated outpatients rehab facilities, nursing homes, home and other hospitals using the ambulance. The Medical Transport III EMT proactively contributes to Eskenazi Health’s mission: Advocate, Care, Teach and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County; and models Eskenazi Health’s values of Professionalism, Respect, Innovation, Development and Excellence.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Transports inpatients to and from diagnostic procedures and tests
- Responsible for transporting patients to rehab facilities, nursing homes, home and other hospitals
- Maintains clean and efficient equipment; cleans wheelchairs and stretchers after each use with disinfectant; reports defective/broken equipment to supervisor
- Assists with wheelchair locating and round-up
- Provides BLS medical transportation and care according to Ambulance Service practices and policies, established protocols, verbal and written orders and state regulations
- Provides clear verbal information via communication systems as required
- Maintains the safety and security of the vehicle and equipment; assists the medical transport coordinator in checking and maintaining vehicle equipment and supplies
- Prepares accurate and legible records, logs, and reports via ImageTrend and other departmental reporting procedures
- Supervises and directs the activities and educational/clinical experiences of assigned observers and students
- Participates actively in continuing education and medical audit programs
Job Requirements
- Indiana Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician-Ambulance, or must acquire within 3 months of hire.
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Current Indiana Driver’s license with motor vehicle record that meets Eskenazi Health’s driving policy.
- Current Indiana motor vehicle insurance
- Obtain EVOC Defensive Driving Course Certification within first 6 months of employment preferred
- AHA CPR Certification
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Competent in Microsoft Office and Epic
- Excellent judgment and ability to prioritized and handle multiple requests calmly and effectively
- Basic English reading and writing skills; fluency in Spanish is desired but not required
- Knowledge of hospital layout and procedures; knowledge of equipment handling
- Knowledge of hospital policies and procedures
- Must be able to:
- work effectively under emergency conditions and stress
- drive an emergency vehicle under emergency conditions
- coordinate emergency care with paramedics
- Must have:
- normal use of limbs, eyes, ears and voice required to treat patients and to operate sophisticated electronic devices
- excellent verbal communication skills
