What to Expect
Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Manufacturing Equipment Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams responsible for designing and producing exciting new technologies. The Manufacturing Equipment Engineer will be responsible for sustaining, improving, designing, and/or sourcing tooling and equipment. They will lead a team of engineers and work closely with cross functional stakeholders to maintain existing equipment, processes, and testers. This role requires hands-on involvement on the manufacturing line and emphasizes analytical abilities, organization skills, and attention to detail.
What You’ll Do

Develop expertise in manufacturing processes, analyze critical data, and understand equipment capabilities. Modify line layouts using Lean Manufacturing best practices to optimize material flow, waste reduction, and ergonomics. Participate in the transition of products from concept to mass manufacturing

Optimize production equipment to maximize safety and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), driving world-class quality levels. Lead continuous improvement projects to increase yield, capacity, and capability

Design new tooling, fixtures, assembly aids, and equipment to enhance processes and yield. Conceptualize high-volume production equipment, prioritizing safety, cost, capacity, volumetric efficiency, and delivery time

Diagnose and resolve issues in the part manufacturing process, utilizing structured problem-solving techniques

Create documentation such as BOMs, schematics, maintenance guides, and operator manuals

Utilize CAD modeling and FEA structural analysis for new tooling/equipment, defining specifications and requirements

Identify automation opportunities and collaborate with Automation/Control Engineers for design and implementation

Provide DFM (design for manufacturability) input to design team for process and yield improvements
- Possess working experience with tools such as Conveyors & Cranes, Atlas Copco Fastening tools, Hipot Testers, CTS Leak Testers, etc.

Support 24/7 production operations as needed
What You’ll Bring
-
5+ years of experience as a hands-on mechanical/manufacturing/design engineer working on mechanical and/or electromechanical systems

Experience leading a team of engineers in a manufacturing setting

Experience creating technical specifications for automated manufacturing equipment
- Experience with chemical dispensing system (Refrigerant, Adhesives, potting, coolant, and sealants)

Familiar with fastening strategies used in transducer-based torque driving

Experience providing Design for Manufacturability and Automation
- Experience with Siemens and/or Beckhoff PLC platforms

Proficiency designing mechanical equipment, fixturing, and tooling in CAD (SolidWorks or CATIA)
- Ability and flexibility to one day support a highly automated line and the next support a completely manual general assembly line

Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience

Expected Compensation
$72,000 - $237,600/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
