Assistant Director of Education - $2,500 Sign On Bonus
St. Ann’s Home and School is looking to add an assistant director of education to join our school’s administrative team. This person will work closely with the director of education and other school and agency administrators to assist in the oversight of St. Ann’s education programs. St. Ann’s is a well-known and respected year-round program dedicated to the education of students with a variety of learning, mental health, and behavioral needs. This is a year-round position.
St. Ann’s school includes Residential & Education, Day, and Summer School programs. The typical census runs between 120-150 students and approximately 75 staff members at any given time. The school day is Monday through Friday, 8:30am - 2:30pm.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working with students with special needs. Knowledge of special education law and processes are helpful and experience working as an administrator in a MAAPS school is a plus. Excellent organization, time management and computer skills preferred.
Qualifications:
The assistant director of education should possess either certification as a SPED administrator or all of the following: (1) certification as a special education teacher in moderate special needs; (2) a minimum of a master’s degree in special education or a related field; and (3) shall have a minimum of five years of teaching experience and two years of administrative or supervisory experience in education or a related human service field.
Primary Duties:
Educational Leadership
- Help ensure the provision of services specified in each student’s IEP are delivered to all students and families in a respectful and dignified manner and ensure students who receive educational services do so in an environment free of abuse and neglect and with respect to human rights. Ensure that St. Ann’s education programs remain inclusive, welcoming and supportive to all staff and students.
- Assist in the design, coordination and supervision of all components involving education.
- Interact effectively with other people concerned with student placement progress such as referring agencies, parents/guardians, advocates, and current and potential providers of continuing or supplementary ancillary services.
- Assist in monitoring student workflow and work quality to ensure that agreed quantity, quality and delivery timelines are maintained.
- Consult with teaching staff, clinical staff, support staff, specialists and other program consultants and incorporate their recommendations or suggestions as to appropriate educational materials.
- Assist in securing, developing, or adapting necessary educational, vocational, and related materials.
Staff Leadership
- Help review, interview, and recommend the hiring for positions in the school.
- Work with the director of education and other administrators to ensure new staff receive orientation/training and all current staff are up to date, providing modeling and resources to teaching staff, teacher assistants and other school personnel as needed.
- Help plan and develop staff training in professional development with the director of education, other school administrators and the director of quality assurance and compliance.
- Help supervise, evaluate, and provide constructive feedback to departmental staff; help observe and complete evaluations. Assist with addressing work performance issues including disciplinary action as needed.
- Help manage staff scheduling, assignments, providing coverage as needed. Approve time off request for supervisees with attention towards staff coverage.
- Attend job fairs and conferences when needed to assist in the recruitment of staff.
- In conjunction with other administrators, help supervise college or graduate student observations, interns and student teachers.
Administration
- Attend or conduct IEP meetings, case conference, clinical meetings or other internal and external meetings assigned by the director of education, as required to ensure that effective student programs are developed, implemented, and evaluated, including the dissemination of information necessary for effective coordination of student programs.
- Prepare internal and external written and verbal reports, as well as other necessary documentation for individuals or staff as needed. Support other education program administrators to maintain updated school forms on all students, including emergency contact forms, medical consent forms, necessary releases, and handbook policies.
- Help oversee the maintenance of the database for MCAS and other state testing and program specific mandates.
- Work with the director of education to review compliance with DESE and DEEC regulations as well as prepare for licensing reviews.
- Assist with internal investigations and or other policy related situations.
- Assist with the oversight of students’ morning and afternoon transportation needs.
- Act as a liaison with state agencies, school district (LEA’s), etc. as needed.
- Carry out administrative responsibilities in the absence of the director of education.
Agency Collaboration
- Work closely with behavioral supervisor, day program director, curriculum specialist, IEP coordinator, education coordinator, residential program directors, and other administrators.
- Work closely with administrators to provide input and insight on program development and strategic planning, and to ensure cross programmatic cooperation and implementation.
- Attend and contribute to committee meetings as assigned by the director of education.
- Take part in and plan events such as open house, parent advisory group, and other related meetings for stakeholders and parents. Assist with school and agency wide activities and celebrations.
- Help coordinate and participate in agency wide trainings as required by St. Ann’s Home.
